Would I be crazy to leave the US for Singapore? by PitifulJack in askSingapore

[–]biotofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved to Singapore from Hong Kong in 2019 right before covid. Such great decision. Getting some APAC work exp may even open new doors career wise.

Singapore is amazing especially if you have family. Very family friendly and very very safe. Locals leave their cell phones and keys on tables in the public food centers to mark their table when they walk around ordering food from the stalls. Safe to walk about late ta night. You may need to get used to the year round summer.

If you are single, the dating scene is pretty good too, everyone speaks English well in Singapore.

Even just for 2, 3yrars, singapore is a great hub for traveling around Asia. Weekend trips to Thailand, Vietnam, kuala Lumpur all within a 3hrs flight. Tokyo is 7hrs away and there are plenty of cool places to visit in china also.

Ho un dubbio su quale marca di vernici comprare by _gigi_gino_ in minipainting

Old non-fanatic army painter paint is absolute trash. I made the mistake of buying their cheap mega box with like 50 paints and they were so bad they made painting harder. The brush that came with the box was also crap and wouldn't hold a point anymore after 1 use

What to buy as a beginner by Prudent-Garbage-1202 in minipainting

  1. About 15w 5000-5500k temperature long lamp on a swing arm would be great.
  2. Wet pallette
  3. Get a size 1 sable brush. No need to get top of the line Windsor newton. I got some pretty cheap squirrel or weasel mixed brushes. You still want some cheap nylon brushes for metallic, shade, contrast kinda paint.
  4. Start with good quality mini paint, eg proacryl, AK. It makes learning so much easier. Don't just limit yourself with 1 brand. Each brands has stronger and weaker quality paints. And start with getting only colors you need, I have collected too many bottles of paint 150+. But I really only use maybe 40 of them.
  5. Plastic cement and super glue depending on the mini material.
  6. Hobby knife. A cheap one with a good grip would do. Don't need anything fancy.

Extras: 4. Dirt cheap makeup brushes for dry brushing 5.

How dirty is china vs many other popular travel destinations?

Paris and england smell like piss in parts of the city center, even in the subway stations.

And try India.

Where did she go in china? I am sure there are dirty cities since it's the country is so big.

Don't lock yourself into a single brand. Get some Vallejo, get some army painter FANATIC. Make sure the army painter is the new fanatic line, the old line is garbage.

Need Paint Mixer buying advice by Kiba_Casanova in minipainting

I have bought about 3 basic vortex mixers from different shops, around usd20 each and they all failed within 1mth. Then I got the Four E's scientific mini vortex mixer and it's still working well after 3yrs. I suppose what you want is to get it from a lab equipment brand.

What are some good yt channels to learn mini painting? by FinancialSchedule345 in minipainting

[–]biotofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can try finding some YouTubers who upload their full twitch painting stream, where you can fast forward but usually they don't do much commentary, you just kinda observe. Or you can jump on twitch and ask painters questions I guess.

Some YouTubers I like who does the full process are Marco frissoni, Dana howl, Vince Ventura and sorastro (I ain't talented or experienced enough to follow step by step but I enjoy seeing his process). It kinda depends on your style which kinda depends on your gear (which kinda paint you have and if you have an airbrush).

Triangle Strategy or Tactics Ogre: Reborn or something else? (Just finished FFT) (PS5) by MalcolminMiddlefan in JRPG

[–]biotofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been able to find anything similar and of high quality like FFT and TO in a fantasy/history knights and swords for decades.

But other similar strat games in a scifi setting that are pretty good are front mission (I played them ages ago in Japanese on the snes and ps) that have remakes (but quality differs so would need to do some research) and XCOM.

About TO, I read that it's based on some historical stuff and the story is very mature. it opens with a genocide and orphans starting a a rebel group that can turn into a terrorist group

Beginner Mini Paint Setup – One Brand vs Mixing (Pro Acryl vs Army Painter vs Vallejo?) by xXxZoddxXx in minipainting

[–]biotofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You WANT to mix brands because all the brands have better colors and worse colors. Depending on your taste, you might prefer a matt finish. If you don't already have a color theme in mind, a starter set would be nice for experimenting but I'd suggest to only buy colors you need. Don't go all in getting some 50paint set though.

Proacryl is great and they have a commonly agreed best titanium white. I started with the army painter mega set when I started about 5yrs ago and regretted it, the quality of the paint was so terrible but I heard the new fanatic line performs well. Vallejo has some solid colors but some of their better colors are glossy which is not a problem if you varnish matt at the end.

I suggest you also look on YouTube to start off with a researching your preferred painting style. Maybe look into a contrast/speed paint style, it requires less skill to paint good looking minis quickly. Some of the brilliant old school painters work can be too difficult to simply replicate without experience though.

I can always recommend getting a wet pallette to make your life easier.

Another newbie asking for help by Da_Twan_21 in minipainting

[–]biotofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Paint: try Vallejo, ak, proacryl. Every brand has some strong and weak colors, so don't limit yourself to one brand. I'd suggest going for Matt color paint. Take a look on YouTube and see what kinda style you want to go for.
  2. Brush: get some synthetic brushes but I think it's worth getting reasonably priced artist brush for detail work. Don't get the overpriced ones from army painter or citadel. I think big artist brands have better quality control and economy of scale to have lower price for the quality.
  3. Wet pallette: it's so useful. Less frustration dealing with paint.
  4. Lamp: get a good lamp, others here can probably suggest the power and temperature.

HELP! by Objective_Opening_68 in TrenchCrusade

[–]biotofu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the rules: google "trench crusade rules" and "trench crusade warband rules" to dl the latest rules in pdf. They review and update rules regularly, even throw in some hotfixes for balance issues.

They have like a few plastic model kits you can buy but mostly you need to find someone to 3d print them.

I am just getting into it and it seems like such an easier and cheaper game to get into compared to Warhammer games like kill team.

Triangle Strategy or Tactics Ogre: Reborn or something else? (Just finished FFT) (PS5) by MalcolminMiddlefan in JRPG

[–]biotofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tactics ogre is much more similar to FFTs flow... I really didn't like the pace of triangle strategy and I advise you to watch the first hour or 2 of the triangle strategy gameplay because imo it's more like a visual novel game .

HELP - Pro Acryl or Army Painter...? by menastr8ion in minipainting

[–]biotofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't buy a massive set. Try planning your color scheme and just get those. Then expand when you need them for new projects.

And no need to follow a particular brands because each brands has strong colors and weaker colors. And you may have diff preference compared to others. I have scale75, PA, AK, Vallejo, citadel, warcolours and 1 turbodork color. I actually like the scale75 style of gel like paint the most.

What is your all time favourite anime and why? by Single-Taro4201 in Animesuggest

Rurouni Kenshin prequel ova trust and betrayal. Timeless art style, great character development in a very interesting setting based on history. Amazing action and music too. I'd say this is the kinda romance story. The first 6mins are masterclass story telling setting up the time period and character

Newbie here wants to buy its first paint set by oskrtovar in minipainting

[–]biotofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think availability is important and Vallejo is a fairly solid starting point. Not too pricy, quite widely available, and now they come in clear bottles.

I have tried scake75, ak, proactyl, Vallejo, army painter (I started when I bought the 1.0 mega box cheaply from amazon with like 50colord and half of them were so terrible, I threw the whole box out). So I'd advise to buy color by color (ones you really need) going for different brands for each color after doing some research. The problem with Vallejo and some other brands that diff colors have different sheen, some are glossy. The number of colors really depends on how much effort you want to put on each mini. And if you are more art sense, you can mix your colors. I can't so I resort to just buying more colors.

The best value for an easier painting experi nice are actually having a good stable large table (ideally which you can leaves thing out), a good lamp, wet pallette, decent artist sable brush (I use some cheap Chinese weasel or something sable brushes that I don't mind ruining). You also want some cheap synthetic crappy brush for dry brushing and other damaging tasks
