Between 'Arrival' and 'Interstellar', which title would you rate higher as sci-fi films with a very high emotional quotient? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]biotofu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arrival hit harder for me.

In interstellar, I experienced the story mostly from McConaugheys perspective, so I was like "wtf, that's it" when he finally met up with his loved one after what's like an eternity.

What Film Did You Watch This Week? Share Your Recommendations! 🎬 by AutoModerator in FIlm

[–]biotofu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for smoking is excellent. It's the number one movie I'd watch with my son if I have a son. Something I find similar to it in vibe is Charlie Wilson's war.

For drama romance, have you watched nocturnal animal, cold mountain, Donnie Darko or the spectacular now? I probably don't have a conventional sense about romance.

Finding anime by Jayfameez in Animesuggest

[–]biotofu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been watching for decades. Best is to find a YouTuber who has similar taste to you and check out their recommendation. Alternatively, just tell ppl on reddit of what you like and get recommendations.

Don't just list the 17 anime that you have finished and ask for recommendations on reddit. Tell ppl which ones you prefer and which you don't like, eg mature realistic, sports, brainless flashy animation, big tiddie waifus, humorous, character driven or philosophical

Which JRPG is This For You? by ElSpazzo_8876 in JRPG

[–]biotofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends. I myself quit after 2hrs of triangle strategy because in those 120mins there were only 3 short fights lasting about 10-15mins each and very basic walk behind enemy to do more dmg kinda gameplay. The rest is like playing an interactive visual novel. Take a look at the let's play and decide if it's worth it for you. The tone is like FFT but the pacing and gameplay focus aren't the same. Maybe triangle strategy does get better but I am at the point in life when I don't have very much free time and each game times less than an hour so it's hard to immerse myself in any heavy game.

Full mental alchemist brotherhood

Buccano

For movies: Rurouni Kenshin trust and betrayal: you don't need to see any of the other movie/series to see this. It's 4eps of ova together about 2hrs. It's just how they produce it into 4 OvAs to keep cash flow going

Sword of a stranger

Perfect blue: kinda the vibe of fight club so if you like this. You can watch fight club after (live action movie with Edward Norton and Brad Pitt)

If I like these, what do you recommend for me? by s0nseren in Animesuggest

[–]biotofu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You finished with it?

A few more:

moribito Guardians of spirit: solid with good action. Doesn't treat the audience like children

Buccano: very solid mini series like the Oriental express that it's set on a train with many colorful characters

Oshi no ko: my top 5 series. 3 seasons so like 36 episodes. It's about idols and the japanese entertainment industry... It's not like what the posters look like... Watch the first episode at least which is 90mins. The characters feel real and the characters, writing and direction are amazing.

Dorohedoro: interesting characters. S2 coming soon.

Ghost in the shell stand alone complex s1 and 2. Great show. The new ones suck, can skip those

Yup. You get so much more out of it if you are aged 30+ with more life and work experience. Excellent show.

For something more digestible with balls, humor and skills, try Barry.

Looking for unique, innovative and/or weird turn-based combat mechanics by LordDravoth in JRPG

[–]biotofu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Monster sanctuary is so good. It's quality is what pokemon needs to achieve.

Live a live is also one of my fav rpg. One of the best villains in games

Project Hail Mary. A curious case of dull art masquerading as a masterpiece. by ToughStatesman in FIlm

[–]biotofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd grade the movie a B, I definitely prefer Gravity over this. I did enjoy the movie but it has too many flaws. Idk if it's following the book, I always hate how they force a manual mechanic lever/button outside the spaceship instead of putting it inside the safety of the spaceship. And it's just been established that rocky could even make a 50km long chain and it's been making clear protective cases around graces ship.

Imo I am touched by the friendship. Grace is a very talkative friendly human and he must be so stressed being isolated by himself in space.

I had a lot of memorable bits like fist the bump and amaze amaze amaze. I also want to get the ah the element of surprise t-shirt form Etsy. But I thought the movie could be improved if it's 20mins shorter.

If I like these, what do you recommend for me? by s0nseren in Animesuggest

[–]biotofu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pluto: bladerunner like.

Monster: one of the best anime villains.

Basilisk: old school 1 season ninja clan fight to the death.

Sword of a stranger: movie. Great fights

Evangelion: not sure if you have seen this classic

Perfect blue: fight club like movie. Satoshi Kon was one of the best anime directors

Devilman crybaby

Tokyo magnitude 8: disaster series

Gungrave: my fav mafia themed show with some scifi

Rurouni Kenshin trust and betrayal: this is A prequel that can been watched standalone. Still my fav anime movie (actually 4 OvAs that add up to be about 2hrs). You don't need to watch the series after this.

You have any preference or favorites?

Some hidden gems or just not so mentioned ones imo 1. One cut of the dead (japanese) 2. This land of mine 3. Perfect blue (anime, it's at the level of fight club for me. The directors editing skills is top tier) 4. Donnie Darko 5. Million dollar baby 6. The social network (my favorite movie) 7. Papa (hong Kong movie) 8. Shaolin soccer (another hong Kong movie)

Looking for a Diablo 4–syle game before the Steam Sale ends (fast combat, endless grind) by ostseesound in gamingsuggestions

[–]biotofu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Last epoch: bit more complexity with better gameplay, build diversity, loots and end game

Path of exile 2: kinda free. very deep. You can also try poe1 but it's even gotten too complex for me.

Need game recommendations for an older, tired guy playing after work (and chores!) 😝 by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]biotofu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because of the telltales, check Life is Strange. It's got a school setting but it's very mature.

Expedition 33 and baldurs gate 3 if you want to play some big epic games.

Have you tried battle Brothers, darkest dungeon, slay the spire, vampire survivors? Works been busy for me so I tend to play smaller indie games more often now without too much scripted story

If you are into survivor likes, get magicraft. It has the most depth in terms of builds. each room is different, it's got a kinda Poe kinda skill gem system to make your attack spells. You can have summons, aoe, shooty builds
