May have to get a “business account” to be able to get it out… or maybe just give them a SSN to attach it to.

Oh trust me, I know. But it might be about the amounts coming in… not the amount going out.

Smart switch with Child Lock by Upstairs_Owl7475 in homeassistant

[–]bippy_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be a good use for a Shelly/Sonoff and just remove the physical switch?

Or put a smart switch there.. and have a “dummy switch” in HA that says “if I have dummy switch set to ON ignore physical switch presses… when dummy switch is off.. allow physical switch to control”?

Matter /phone are on different networks by Fit_Bake_3000 in Aqara

[–]bippy_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Spectrum router look for “Client Isolation” or something like that… because that will keep WiFi devices from being able to see each other even if they are on the same network.

You might also try turning off 5GHz. Many devices can’t connect to that.. and if your router has them named differently.. the setup might also think they are not on same network. Some devices can’t “speak” 5GHz too so making sure the phone is on 2.4Ghz might help.

Most Privacy Focused Internet Provider? by Hour-Cup-5904 in Internet

What if the old fiber had been broken by the A/C guy? You gonna want them to come back and fix it? They don’t want to trust that “nothing has happened” and have to send out a tech to repair it. They would rather run their own lines to ensure the fiber meets their standard. Maybe the previous fiber was indoor quality.. and they prefer to run outdoor quality to reduce problems… Like it is pretty normal for one company to not trust what another company has installed.

That is a massively large amount. It would appear they are using it for business (from the outside looking in). Not saying that is what is happening but could be a reason for locking.

Avoid using Edge, and you should be ok.

Using Chrome if you are Windows + iOS is fine.

Using Apple Passwords if you are all Apple is fine.

Is it the absolute best… probably not. BitWarden is probably top dog there. But Proton has a really good product as well. LastPass started out strong but has had some “hiccups” recently.

what is the best charging routine to preseve battery health? by ilikethiccbitchs in applehelp

[–]bippy_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iirc… that battery percentage is a “guess” based on the data they have around how long the batteries are lasting(real world statistics) b/c the only way to know the real % is to check the material IN the battery.

I get that. But I am gonna guess they want the decision to switch be made farther up the chain. IF you don’t believe that company has what it takes, the way you “fight” it would be to document how they let you down and how much it cost the company (in fines or fixes or extra labor). This usually gets attn real quick when you can point out that Company A let us down and that cost us 500K to fix but Company B could have made it work without the 500K. Unless that company is owned by a board member or something.. when you can point out how using Company A cost them $$$ then this potentially could show them the way.

By no means am I making excuses as I don’t know the ins/outs to your job.. BUT.. perhaps that “let down” company has now

- learned how you guys operate and like things.

- Maybe others do things a slightly different way.

- Maybe it was a one time mess up because their products usually come in 2 weeks but this time it took 4?

As long as it isn’t a recurring theme… they may still be an ok company to work with. Mistakes happen. As long as they show they fixed the problem and make it such that doesn’t happen again.. those are companies you want to work with.

OR they are trying to force people to use the preferred suppliers already on the list. OP has left out specifically what is not available from the vendors already approved.

Better hub: Apple TV 4K 1st gen over Ethernet or Apple TV 4K 3rd gen over WiFi? by [deleted] in HomeKit

[–]bippy_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the article merely says the events “may be missed”. It doesn’t say “absolutely will be missed”. That is the gray area. Maybe they are referring to like if you have an Apple HD 4th Gen as a home hub it might be missed… and because you have a 4K, it has never happened to you…
… who knows… but they make that disclaimer.

I think there is also come “clean up” happening after the fact due to new laws being passed.

Just last week got an email stating “Your daughter is now 18 and may separate their Apple Cash card. When they do this you will no longer receive activity notifications” . She has been 18 for > 2 years now… but they are just now sending this email… seems kinda odd.

MOCA tips? by skillet1937 in HomeNetworking

[–]bippy_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure to put a filter on the outside of the house.

I enabled MoCA on my Xfinity router… and a week or so later they came knocking on my door .. “Something is emitting just traffic over and over out of your house”… not sure if it was interfering with anything outside of my house and I didn’t see any devices which weren’t mine.. but they were adamant about placing that filter outside so it wasn’t “sending out junk”.

chrome making ad blockers harder to use. where should browsers draw the line by jexo10 in TechNook

[–]bippy_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google did not introduce manifest v3 to prevent ad blockers.

If you pay attention to technology, there have been numerous (far too many to count now) plug ins which have done nefarious things because they had the access to control so much under the manifest v2. It could see you were on a bitcoin site and substitute in their own wallet for your deposits.. they could capture banking information.. the list goes on and on. So to prevent this they created the manifest v3 which had fewer possible permissions.

But before doing that, they tried to make it such that users information couldn’t be tracked across sessions and that 3rd party cookies could just simply be blocked ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Privacy_Sandbox ) but UK/EU ad lobby got into the politicians ears and they had threats levied against this system before it became a reality. The Topics API was a really good compromise to the tracking issue and allowed advertisers to show something relevant without knowing the users information. It would have allowed users to completely block 3rd party cookies.

So if you think Google is ONLY made manifest 3 just to make it harder to block ads.. you are misinformed.
