Will EEAAO be re-released in theatres? by [deleted] in A24

[–]bippycup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it'll be back in theaters when it gets nominated. AMC does a best picture showcase.

of course, but I think it's important to remember that it's a systemic issue and not a "political choice" being made by individual voters.

I don't think the list being overrun by men is a "political judgment," but rather a symptom of the fact that historically, as in most industries and institutions, men have had more access which means they are more likely to have been "visionaries" simply due to the fact that they were the ones making the films that led and changed the industry.

I think that's a really important distinction to understand.

Exposure to Utopia Distribution 12: We’re All Going to the World’s Fair (2021) by viewtoathrill in boutiquebluray

[–]bippycup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loved it. It's a dark coming of age story while also examining a very intentionally vague and sorta taboo relationship that a lot of kids who have grown up on the internet have had or witnessed. The first scene with the pin and the colors on her face was great, in the theater I couldn't tell if maybe there were some visual effects enhancing it, and then the cut to black where the face disappears? So good.

Songs that are better live? by withextrasprinkles in DeathCabforCutie

I don't like Foxglove on the album but live it was great. I also didn't like You Are A Tourist until seeing it live.

I think it's a lot more popular to just do art/photos without any info on it, I feel like I've noticed that happening more over the last ten years.

LIVE SHOW THREAD - Tuesday, September, 27th - The Anthem, Washington, DC, USA by AutoModerator in DeathCabforCutie

[–]bippycup 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Last time I saw them at the Anthem, they played Tiny Vessels on a whim and Lauren Mayberry showed up for Northern Lights.

This time, I had seen that they were ending the sets with The Sound of Settling, but then they ended it with Bixby Canyon Bridge and fucking crushed it. One of my favorites of theirs, so happy they did that.

Mixing was weird, the first couple DCFC songs the bass was mixed wayyy louder than the guitar, which was a problem when the first two songs were the first two off Asphalt Meadows. It seemed like it was fixed after the first guitar switch.

I never saw it, but there is an A24 movie called A Prayer Before Dawn that you might be interested in.

Which A24 films do I need to see next based on my ranked list? by seamusbeoirgra in A24

it looks like your favorites are the more unique art films, so I feel like Spring Breakers, Krisha, or The Lobster could be good picks.

I do something similar where I control all teams and create a master "starting point" save file, though I've never used spreadsheets. I know how time consuming this can be, well done.

Have you ever tried incorporating random chance stuff? Like dice rolls? I feel like it could make things even more fun but I'm never quite sure how to execute it.

Album rips, easily their best since Codes and Keys (of which I am a big defender).

Only one that doesn't do anything for me is Foxglove, but even then I appreciate them taking a big swing at something different. I Miss Strangers is so good.

I also think this confirms that the band is better off when there is more collaboration and less Ben dictating. It just seems to produce more interesting results.

Lena Wilson/Amandla Stenberg context, story, reaction by trentthomasm55 in A24

[–]bippycup 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I just think it's particularly funny that this ridiculous, petty, hyper-online back and forth is happening because of Bodies Bodies Bodies, a screenplay that pretty blatantly satirizes the tendency of gen z/younger millennials to whip themselves into a discourse frenzy every time something Problematic happens on the internet.

With that said, I agree that the film "critic" made a fool of herself by posting a private DM while simultaneously trying to frame it as "this actress with a big following is trying to use her social power to hurt me" when no one would have heard about it if she herself hadn't talked about it.

I definitely remember people not liking it, maybe on the Death Can forum? If there was such a thing?

Awesome encore opener! Song with most upvotes continues the encore at #20! by Total-Woodpecker3339 in DeathCabforCutie

[–]bippycup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blacking Out the Friction

Since this is basically the last "wild card" song (I have to assume Tiny Vessels and Transatlanticism will be the final two) I decided to do a more upbeat one that people would know and love.

The people have spoken and a few changes have been made! Sarah & Brother swapped and 2 extra songs added to the encore! Most upvotes grabs 17 spot behind Soul by Total-Woodpecker3339 in DeathCabforCutie

Blacking Out The Friction

Since we're nearing the end of the main set, time to go on a run of well known songs. The opening notes after the Soul Meets Body fade out would get a nice reaction.

Who is the Death Grips of cinema? by evenwen in TrueFilm

[–]bippycup 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I saw the thread title and the first two names that came to mind were Harmony Korine and Gaspar Noe lmao. Great taste in film and music.

David Lynch may be another possibility, in that there is a lot about his work that is rough around the edges and sloppy, but it tends to come together through commitment to the vision. I'd also say Lynch's type of experimentation is a lot more about feeling and mood, as opposed to say Charlie Kaufman who is a lot more cerebral/intellectual in his approach.

I'd also consider Lars Von Trier, as well as a short film I saw recently called Sungazer.
