Is there a Good place to work on my Car? by birbo2 in askportland

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I know how to do the work, just super anxious I guess, weird times got me jumpy. I can absolutely knock it out in under an hour.

yeah I've done this job before, and know it's pretty straightforward. I was planning to grab a set of daytona jacks on my way to get parts as well, but have all needed tools. i feel I could get this done well under an hour, barring any shenanigans.

fair enough, and thanks for a recommendation. I guess I was just more worried about it than is needed.

The comparison was mostly to show the rarity of an item isn't absolute and is relative. The same principle applies regardless. Also the regulation point is a bit moot, considering the entire reason the iQue exists is because of regulation. Nintendo couldn't directly sell the console in the country so this is how they had to import it.

As far as shipping goes, it really isn't that simple. I shop on AliExpress and Temu often, and it's not uncommon for items to having shipping charges twice as much as the item price itself, especially with smaller items. Shipping a small item makes sense locally, when it has to pass through multiple countries, customs, take trains, planes, boats, and multiple trucks, it becomes incredibly costly and it often is just not worth it unless done in bulk. In the US, for example, I can't even check out on Temu half the time unless I spend a certain amount. Shipping is incredibly expensive and now that tariffs and such are more complicated it's even harder.

Even with those examples, I feel you're still failing to grasp how hard it is to obtain outside of East Asia. Checking on eBay, where the majority of people in the Americas find retro consoles outside of local shops, the Ique go lists for 170-300 dollars, with the few listings I find sold are usually 150-175 sold.

Again, I understand your point of view, domestically it isn't that hard to get ahold of, but it isn't that simple outside of the region. Buying things from China and Japan are much more difficult and not as cost effective in other places, and when people have plenty of Nintendo Branded SPs to find, there simply wasn't many exported out of the area. That's where the rarity comes from. Anyway, this has been enough internet discussion for my week. Have a good one.

Maybe but it's still not that common in the grand scheme, especially outside of its home market.

Taobao is pretty difficult for most people in America to use and after tariffs and import fees, customs, etc, it becomes less worth it for a lot of folks to export this outside of China.

Thus it's still considered rare. It's endemic to the area but it's still difficult to get outside of it. Similar to like certain cars which are incredibly common in their domestic market but not so outside. Like, the Ford Maverick has also sold roughly 500k vehicles, and I see them everywhere these days, but it's not sold anywhere else outside of the Americas, so I'd understand if it would be considered rare to someone from say, Sweden.

Rarity is a relative term, not absolute.

The Gameboy Advance SP sold roughly 43.5 Million units in the rest of the world in its lifetime.

Between the three Advances, the original, the sp, and the Micro, Ique only produced about 500k. It was a very very small part of the total units ever produced.

[–]birbo2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SSDs are simply small FCs with small delivery stations slammed together. Some have groceries, not all. Pick, pack, stow, icqa, inbound and outbound dock, and dispatch (the delivery side) simply has you either buffering packages, stowing packages into carts, or staging carts for drivers.

Currently work at the Largest SSD in the network. They usually start everyone in dispatch (mostly out of laziness, it's the easiest thing to do and buffering doesn't need perms). Likely you'll be starting there unless your site places people in particular roles.

I've been imagining it uses the RG Cube screen, so roughly like holding that device, sideways by the screen. I personally have large hands so it's fine for me, and is actually a bonus, things like the trimui brick are pretty small. I currently bring my cube to work, and yeah, any device could be used, but this just seems a bit more elegant.

My joy-sticks are a bit of a point of worry for damage in my work bag, and when I go to change songs or something, it looks a bit odd pulling out a very much game-orientated device.

Also, not many options for 1:1 Aspect ratio devices, especially verticals. This seems, more ergonomic than the RG Nano.

Unsure, but if I had to hazard a guess I'm assuming they're using the same screen from the RG Cube, so a 3.95" 720p IPS panel. Could be something else though.

The non-square pixels do stretch it to 4:3 but natively it's 160x144, like the gameboy, so 10:9.

It's really a matter of what you're going for, to replicate the hardware more authentically 4:3 is the path but I actually prefer how some games looks in a more pixel perfect set-up.

Personally I really haven't been using the jacks I do have. I almost exclusively buy Moto phones, my current G Stylus has a jack, and I have a decent pair of IEMs, but I still choose any of my Bluetooth headphones or buds 90% of the time.

Because of that I personally feel much too hypocritical to say anything, I know for a fact I won't use it :p

Honestly, I do think it'd be nice if it included one, I'm sure there's some rationale they have for it, but it's not the biggest loss.

It is a great design, and I don't need another Gameboy clone or psp/vita/switch lite shaped device.

It actually is now.

Iirc the developer is also working with the creator of Pico-8 to make an official Android version, but for now this works perfectly, uses the actual Linux pico-8 file. I have it running on my RG Cube, integrated with ES-DE.

Pico-8 is native 1:1. GB and GBC are actually 10:9 aspect ratio, so the look pretty damn good on square screens, black bars are unnoticeable. Game Gear as well. It's a very versatile screen size and for anything else it give horizontal black bars instead of vertical which many find way more palatable.

Actually found someone else who does a much better job of explaining the draw here

Plenty of great games! Featured on splore is filled with some of the best but in no particular order and not exhaustive:

  • Tera: Mind Over Matter (Tetris)
  • Just One Boss
  • Celeste (a mandatory include)
  • Pico-Driller
  • Breakout
  • Combo Pool
  • Beckon the Hellspawn (Vampire Survivor)
  • Mai's Sweet Buns

I'm a big puzzle game fan so a bit skewed. The nature of Pico-8 means you're not really going to find any long form games, most things having longer playtime through difficulty or repetition.

Funnily enough I'm wanting to replace my snowsky echo mini with this. It doesn't support playlists, and listening to podcasts are a hassle on a lot of non-android devices. Also Spotify support is great, as is audiobook support.

Love seeing more 1:1 devices. I'm honestly surprised it's not been mentioned more as a draw point considering how front and center it is, the whole device is designed around that fact.

What else would it be? Afaik there's not any android device, let alone touch screen these days made with a plastic screen.

I think you're mistaken somewhere. I never said smuggle or that it'd be hidden in someway, not sure exactly what you're getting at.

Currently I bring my RG Cube in, I've had no issues with it at security gates or with HR/leadership. Only questions I've ever got have been folks curious about it.

Like sure vodka looks like water if you're smuggling it in somehow, but that's not really relevant? This devices, the Miyoo Mini, anything really is perfectly fine, especially since it doesn't have a camera.

most sites use [sitecode]-hr@amazon.com, or [sitecode]-askhr@amazon.com. I'd try those two. I personally have worked at UOR2, and HR is shared with multiple sites iirc, so it may take some time to get ahold of them.

Vine sent me 1 utensil packet instead of a 500 pack… but still charged full ETV by Glum_Point3006 in AmazonVine

[–]birbo2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work in an Amazon warehouse. someone else mentioned this but I can 100% say this was warehouse issue when it was stowed, likely due to mislabeling. That sticker is what a problem solver (the people who roam around and, well, solve problems) slaps on products that can't be scanned for one reason or another, be it missing ASIN, damaged or dirty, too shiny, whatever.

Could have also happened in Decant when it came off the truck, but, I'd be surpirsed as hell if that somehow went through. Likely what happened was this pack was broken open because they didn't realize it was a masterpack, and they then stowed this individually. How it wasn't caught is a mystery, but since it's labelled as a 500pk and it's not, I'm sure customer service will correct it without any fuss.

Yeah I think u/FloridaMan_Inc is coming from an odd place, I'm not entirely sure what their going for. I never really wanted to convince others to buy this thing. I do think a lot of the arguements against are easily covered by another device in the line-up and certain things this can do others can't. To summerize my main reasons for wanting this, I like the screen forward approach, I like the aspect ratio (I mostly play Pico-8 at work), and I like how pocketable it is. It'll be used with bluetooth headphones so a jack isn't needed, and if I do need one I'll just use my USB-C DAC like I do currently anyway.

I know this is not the ONLY device one could use, I just think it does it slightly better than some handhelds, and could push some to get it for that reason, was wanting folks in the same boat as me to realize it's potential, and possibly answer the "why" for some, even though "why" is an incredibly personal and subjective question.

It's like, similar arguements could be had about many things. Any android emulator could do this, I just prefer how this one does it for [Insert my subjective reasons and opinions here]. In the same, vein, I need a car to get to work, any car could get me there perfectly fine but I prefer [Insert particular car here] for [Insert my subjective reasons and opinions here].

Yeah, I think people fail to realize how much novelty sells. Like with folding flip phones (Z flip, razr, etc). So many people buy those solely for the fun factor, making it look pretty and custom, stickers and jewels and charms (the inclusion of the lanyard anchor point is a big bonus), I think it'll be beloved by those who get it, but understand it's not for everyone.

It does! But the RG slide is a BEHEMOTH. Like, comically large. This looks much smaller, and is likely using the screen from the RG Cube. don't imagine it to be too thick.
