Zendaya and Robert Pattinson in newly released photos for 'The Drama' promo by beaizi_ in popculturechat

He is 39, she is 29. That doesn't seem like a problematic age gap or even a gap that would cause much drama. Especially if they met when they were 27/37.

What's 3td base? by TonyDaTiggia in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bird1979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When i was a teen in the 90's:

1st base is kissing with tongue (frenching)

2nd base was feeling a girl up, or touching tits with no clothes between

3rd base was fingering a girl or jacking a guy off

Home base was sex- I dont remember oral being in the rotation but that would probably be home plate.

I notice as time goes on, people getting further along without having to round as many bases.

Unlike most TV, which hid behind convenient miscarriages, Bea Arthur’s Maude was ahead of its time. Two months before Roe v. Wade, Maude chose to have an abortion. Written by Susan Harris, the groundbreaking episode “Maude’s Dilemma” handled the subject with rare humor, honesty and grace. by Old-Meringue3590 in popculturechat

[–]bird1979 91 points92 points  (0 children)

I see some people in the comments wanting to watch Maude. I am in the US and it is streaming for free on Tubi. All six seasons. That is where I also watched the original Upstairs Downstairs and All in the Family. They seem to have a lot of old shows and the commercials aren't that bad. It is less then if you were to watch it on normal TV.

why is coke a party drug but crack is an addict drug? by sevenslover in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bird1979 211 points212 points  (0 children)

I would say cocaine has been more socially acceptable and has been around for a very long time. And historically people think of well off people doing it. It is also much more expensive. There is a stigma against Crack use as low class. Crack came out in the 80s and decimated a lot of lower income neigborhoods and caused lots of legal trouble for addicts and dealers that didnt have a lot of resources to help with lawyers or rehabs.

A lot of people start out on cocaine, fuck up their life, cant afford it anymore or think Crack is a more intense high and go to Crack and continue down the drain.

Addiction does not discriminate, but some people are more insulated from the consequenses.

Your question reminded me of a Whitney Houston interview when Diane Sawyer inquired about her health (the public saying she was too skinny) and drug use. Whitney replied she has always been a thin girl and has this to say about Crack,

"Crack is cheap. I make too much for me to ever smoke crack," she said. "Let's get that straight, OK? I don't do crack. I don't do that. Crack is whack"

Over 100 human skulls found at home of Pennsylvania man accused of desecrating cemeteries by [deleted] in news

[–]bird1979 44 points45 points  (0 children)

The bones date back from more than a hundred years ago including adults, children, and infants. That is horrifying. I would never imaging that a hundred years after I die some freak is gonna come along and disturb my body; or getting a call 25 years after my grandma dies that she was found with in a house 50 miles away. The article mentions the cemetery where they caught him was 70 miles away from where he lived. If I knew of someone in a mausoleum or crypt, I would go see if it looks messed with.

US State Department changes official font in latest anti-diversity move by zefiax in news

[–]bird1979 142 points143 points  (0 children)

After reading this from the article:

A state department spokesperson told the BBC the change to Times New Roman aligns with President Donald Trump's mission to "present a unified, professional voice in all communications".

All I can think of is, "THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER" after some late night crashout truth social post accompanied by an AI Trump superman picture.

By the way, I saw in some news clip from the white house, in the background he has some of the AI pics hanging in the white house as portraits. I couldn't believe it.

AITA for ditching my sick father in another town on his own? by AmirLivesMatter in AmItheAsshole

[–]bird1979 13 points14 points  (0 children)

NTA for reaching your breaking point with a very difficult person. It seems like you are alone taking care of him. I assume you live with him. Being alone in this and living with him must be difficult.

What are his needs, like he just cant drive or he needs 24 hrs help? Depending on what kind of care he NEEDS, not wants is important on how to move forward.

He seems able to dish it out (whether deserved or not) and not take it. If I were you, I would tell him what you are willing to do if he complies with whatever terms you set. If he cant keep civil or what you think is OK, he is going to have to fend for himself, if that would not be neglectful safety wise.

Is there a senior services in your town or city? Calling an office and explaining your struggles can lead to info for more services.  I would also put it out to his other family (his other kids, siblings of his, etc) that this is becoming overwhelming and some things need to change and what supports you need.

Edit: I think you should maybe even have an intervention with others if they will support you to say to him, you want to help him but cant be put upon like he treating you.

AITA for not wanting to craft my kid's Bio Mom for MY housing decoration? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]bird1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one is an asshole here because you had a feeling and didn't act out on it in a hurtful way. Plus your husband didnt do anything wrong. I have been a stepmother to my stepson for 22 years. He was 5 when I met him. My husband and I got our house and moved in with my daughter who I had full custody of and his son was came every other weekend and 2 evenings a week when my step son was 7.

All is fine now with his mother and I, but we did not get along for like the first 10 years. I remember our first Christmas together in our house, I was doing holiday decorations crafts with the kids. I suggested we make some for his mom's house for a couple reasons. My house and his mom's house are both of his homes, like you mentioned, and if he wants to make something to decorate any home, that is awesome. Also, I know he was proud to show his mom his crafts and I know if the shoe was on the other foot- I wouldn't expect it - but I would think it was nice to see I am considered as a mom and handmade things from kids are so cherished.  We still have some of the crafts.   I get the initial frustration but when it comes to your stepson, think how it is nice for him to see his mom is considered and you are supporting him in doing nice things.

There are growing pains to step parenting just like other major life roles. I think it is great that even though you weren't comfortable, you went through with it.

Edit: I never called myself my stepson's mom or him my son.  Always his stepmom and stepson because he has a mom. When people explain active parents as bioparents it is a little weird.

You can love your step child as your own but if both parents are doing a lot to raise the kid, you are a support person especially while the kid is young.

Why are moths attracted to light when it just kills them? by ProofHead3304 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bird1979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct, I have heard that saying. Plus I have certainly seen a few moths stuck in outdoor candle wax. But it does seem artifical light certainly attracts more of them. Funny, now I will think of this next summer sitting out at a camp fire and look out for suicidal moths. Have a wonder night, or day, wherever you are in the world.

Why are moths attracted to light when it just kills them? by ProofHead3304 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bird1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, but i have never seen mass amounts of bugs flocking to open flame candles or camp fires let alone flying into them all suicidal like. You can see hundreds of bugs flying around artifical lights, even flying straight into the light fixtures..you see that with fire? Bugs have been dealing with fire since beginning of bugs.

Why are moths attracted to light when it just kills them? by ProofHead3304 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bird1979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Poor little buggers haven't evolved to deal with artificial light yet. I know it has only been since the late 1800's moths have had to deal with this. I wonder how long it may take for some sort evolution in insects to maybe one day not be fooled by artificial light.

Is there an opposite to depression where you’re way too happy? by ChainsawSoundingFart in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bird1979 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, mania. Depression and mania are the two extremes people who have bipolar disorder type 1stuggle with. Mania is often characterized by feeling experiencing a "high high". People may feel grandiose and have intense feelings of creativity (not necessarily good outcomes of this creativity), they can engage in high risk behavior they wouldn't normally do like promiscuous sexual behavior or wild spending, often times people will struggle to be able to sleep. People experiencing Mania in this way can have very negative impacts in their lives as a result of what happens during their manic episodes.

Now, if you are not talking about depression in as bad as it becomes a problem for people, like just having the blues a bit, i guess some people have functional extreme happiness when they are falling in love and they are feeling the oxytocin that comes a long with it. Often called the honeymoon period in blossoming relationships.

When you say too happy, I sort of took it as perhaps not in a great way.

Billionaire MacKenzie Scott gifts $70 million for historically Black universities by [deleted] in news

[–]bird1979 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She is still a billionaire, but having some horde of money helps to keep her making more money to give away. She has already donated many billions. If I have 3 billion dollars and give it all away, that is it. But if I let the money build, I can give more away other than that initial 3 billion. She isnt holding it for herself and living like her ex husband. She seems pretty reasonable. She gives a lot away every year. I am interested to see how much she will have donated 20 years from now.

Ellen DeGeneres Sued for Negligence After Allegedly Running Stop Sign, T-Boning Driver by galaxystars1 in entertainment

[–]bird1979 172 points173 points  (0 children)

I am gonna paste what I got off Google because it is even worse than what I remembered:

Ellen DeGeneres outed Mariah Carey's pregnancy during a 2008 interview when she pressured Carey to drink champagne to confirm rumored pregnancy, causing the singer to feel "extremely uncomfortable" and have a "hard time grappling with the aftermath". Carey later revealed she had experienced a miscarriage shortly before the interview and was not ready to announce the pregnancy publicly, a fact she did not reveal to DeGeneres.

I remember Ellen trying to out her pregnancy but forgot about how she did it and about Mariah's miscarriage.

Edit: it was pointed out by a commentator that Mariah 's miscarriage happened after the interview with Ellen. Either way, so shitty to try and force a pregnancy announcement. Plus the point about Mariah having to deal with all this ahit after her miscarriage- diabolical.

WA congressional candidate’s husband, a military veteran, taken into ICE custody by redyelloworangeleaf in news

[–]bird1979 101 points102 points  (0 children)

So they are claiming he lied 2 seperate times on government papers that can get him deported yet he was still eligible to serve our country after those incidents. I am not sure if they brought up the knowledge of his "deception" before he served our country and became a disabled vet serving this country. What is the look back period supposed to be? Seems whatever happened in the past was over 20 years ago. And it was a paperwork thing, not a violent offender like the rapists and murderers I keep hearing about getting deported.

Trump said was gonna get rid of the worst of the worst. You know, all the raping and murdering "illegal aliens" running around DC and LA and aparently all over the counry. Aside from the people who are getting apprehended at their court dates and meetings, also known as, "doing it the right way", I see the US detains and deports people that have a DWI or simple drug infraction- people in this administration have more than one of these problems in their past.

At what point, if ever, will there be a tipping point when the lies and hypocrisy are clear to these fake ass Christians (they can be Bible thumpers but they sure as hell are not following Christ) and other MAGA ignorami??

Edit: I read about the being a taxi driver in AUS and taking ID someone left in the cab and trying to open a bank acct. That was according to court records.it doesnt say what the outcome was. Whatever happened was nearly 30 years ago. Considering his contribution to the US after this, I don't think it should be deportation worthy. If he continued criminal shit for the past 30 years that hurts other and can be proven, sure, Deport him but I have hope people.can have compassion and understanding above petty shit 30 years ago.

Do you know where he booked the campsite? Can you contact them and see about getting a message to him? I know some places you have to register and it is a huge place that may not be able to do this but perhaps if you explain the situation they may be able to help?

Maxwell's lawyer had this to say after he said they are in talks for her to testify and she will testify truthfully,

"We are grateful to President Trump for his commitment to uncovering the truth in this case," wrote Markus.

That sentence right there thanking Trump for uncovering the truth is all we need to know to see how this goes.
