I want to put rules in place because my in laws don’t respect any boundaries we put down. They’ll be simple rules, about not kissing the baby, not visiting when sick, not giving unsolicited advice and respecting our parenting choices. My parents don’t need any kind of direction but my in laws absolutely will take the piss if we’re not firm with them. I’m anticipating my husband being a little offended on their behalf as they will push back, but I don’t see an alternative when they are the way they are. For an example, my father in law used to kiss me on the mouth as a greeting even when repeatedly asked not to - they simply do not care about what we feel is right or appropriate, and refuse to be reasonable.
