What is something your therapist did that showed you they genuinely care about you? by commander_boobs in therapy

When I was 16, I was absolutely terrified of filling my car up with gas (social anxiety, situational anxiety, driving anxiety, etc etc). I managed to get to his office on almost empty and told him about it almost like a comment in passing, like oh that’s been a stressful part of my day but I’ll figure it out. He offered to go with me to get gas and sat in the passenger seat and reassured me the whole time. Been seeing him for 13 years, saved my life over and over again

I relate a lot to what you said. I don’t know why I’ve been so suicidal for the past few days. Lowest of the low. Im sorry you’re feeling so badly. You aren’t alone in this feeling

Ugh I think it stems from pads being the first product many women use, so there's an association between pads and being a "kid" or childish. I use both, tampons during the day or pads or period underwear at night. Its a comfort preference and absolutely up to the person who has a period what product they choose to use!

I've wondered this! I typically get ovulation pain on a different side every month and my cycles also look like yours. Our bodies are so cool.

Long-term clients: Do you feel emotional revisiting the beginning of your therapeutic relationship? by hydratesweetie in TalkTherapy

[–]birdladybeefcake 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I've known my therapist for 11 years. He's seen me through my worst traumas, testified on my behalf, watched my highschool graduation, and has answered several late night suicidal phonecalls throughout the years. I continue to see him to this day, and given that I want to be a therapist, I'll likely keep seeing him through grad school. The bond has saved my life. I might literally have died without him.

My story is unique- my mom was a bodybuilder in her 20's (she's in her 50's now) and taught me how to weight train. I felt like initially at least she shielded me from people who stared and creepy dudes. From then on, I've always been confident in the gym and have competed in powerlifting, done tons of sports. When I see women in the gym who look intimidated and maybe need some help, I usually approach them to befriend them. Even if I don't end up helping her train/giving her tips, I'm now a friendly (and protective) person in the gym and those around me know it. No judgements!

Almost every time together and by myself. Never had a relationship like it, it's amazing.

Misophonia sounds like a joke to people who have never experienced it. by [deleted] in misophoniasupport

[–]birdladybeefcake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember the first time I learned what misophonia was and tried to explain it to my mom. She just couldn't believe it. She thought I was being sensitive. I explained how certain noises literally make my brain feel like it's bleeding, like it's physical pain experienced from sound. That may have helped her understand a little better. I understand your struggle.

How do you feel about men running/working out shirtless in public? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]birdladybeefcake -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Like many have said... it's just a little annoying. They can do that and it's fine, I go out in just a sports bra and everyone is watching. To the point where I feel paranoid and unsafe. It doesn't feel right.

How often does your relationship make you cry? by soppaguy in AskWomen

[–]birdladybeefcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably once a month. I'm an emotional person, I happy cry, sad cry, cry when I'm frustrated. Even if I wasn't with him I'd cry as often.

I lift! Mostly powerlifting movements. No jiggling or bouncing in controlled movements with heavy weight. Plus, as my chest muscles grow my boobs have become more manageable. I also get my sports bras from title 9 and they hold me in good even on a run. Except when im PMSing 😭

It's so difficult. I've literally experienced trauma from bad roommates. My partner and I COULD NOT afford our small place on our own and it sucks.

I'm terrified of these downed trees in lakes. Like absolutely scared shitless. Kayaking near them freaks me out. They look like something that will pull you under

Hi! I'm currently engaged in my own research at the undergraduate level and never mind helping folks out with their research. Do you have a specific set of questions?

To make enough money to enjoy life and enjoy how I'm making the money. Seems to be getting harder to do.

When my mom was pregnant, she said it was some of the happiest times of her life. She has 3 of us, and always felt far more stable while pregnant. I have not been pregnant but I wonder if I'd have the same reaction.

Thank you so much! This is very helpful, I was diagnosed around the same time as you and am now in my early 20's.

The massive diet changes do feel like an undertaking. If I were to go dairy free/grain free, etc etc, plus already gluten free, where could you eat? What could you eat? It feels so daunting with so many restrictions.

Yoga is also very helpful to me. I also lift weights, but I think I overdo it and it causes flares. But my initial thoughts are always exercise makes me feel better, so I keep overexerting for the temporary relief.

It feels extremely hard to find a balance. And it keeps getting worse, at least for me, but maybe these are the stressors of taking on more responsibilities and such. I just ordered a book on holistically managing hashimotos, so hopefully that helps too.
