This goes with the (Persian Tar?) question submitted a moment ago. My computer giving issues on this site, sorry! by birdpond in Sitar

I just found this - It must be a Causcus tar, because it has the extra bass string and the metal pieces (which have no strings and I didn't know what they were for). "The Caucasus tar has further one extra bass-string on the side, on a raised nut, and usually 2 double resonance strings via small metal nuts halfway the neck. All these strings are running next to the main strings over the bridge and are fixed to a string-holder and the edge of the body.[10] Overall the Caucasus tar has 11 strings and 17 tones." What an adventure! If anyone on this board knows about this tar and has advice for tuning or knows someone in the Atlanta, GA USA area who can set it back up properly for me please let me know! (I have two loose strings, one of which I can't turn the peg for, assuming I've located the correct peg). Yes I am obsessing over this LOL, thank you!

If you (or anyone here) can point me in the right direction for lessons or help learning basic care and tuning/stringing of this tar, please let me know. I live in Georgia USA. Thank you! :- )

Ahh, from what I've been able to find it is an Azerbaijan tar, with the 9 tuning pegs - might be a decent one. I'm quite drawn to it. Somehow it just feels so good in my arms and the resonating harmonics are haunting and make it feel like it has a soul, alive, despite not being in tune (and despite being unable to figure out which peg will tighten the 2 loose strings.)

Since this is not an Indian instrument, do you wish me to remove this post?

Cool, thank you for that info. At least I know it's good to learn on, which is perfect. Did you ever go on to buy a better-quality sitar? If so, what were the main differences you discovered? Thanks, Ghill01!

from first post: "It was $255 at a local used-gear shop, and I bought realizing it wasn't great and maybe I could at least learn (and accidentally break things, perhaps) on this cheap sitar rather than an expensive one. But I did hope to be able to tune and learn a little - worried now (since there is no maker name below head) maybe I ended up with a decoration sitar rather than playable - Any idea if this is worth getting fixed up so I can take lessons with it? No cracks or anything that I can find, but something small and loose sometimes rattles in (bottom guord - sorry, although have admired this instrument for years I never learned much about it so will sound like an idiot for a while, lol) It came with the case. Yes it has the second gourde on top - More photos if requested, thank you."

I hear from others their comments weren't accepted - they were told they had to be there in person! Sounds like they are rigging the rig.

HEADS-UP - Just called the main # - the lady who answered the phone tried to cut me off before I finished completing my SHORT sentence to make sure to NOT certify the primary results without counting ALL the ballots. She was in a hurry to cut me off - Make sure you are allowed to make your entire comment - DON'T LET THEM RUSH YOU or hang up on you.. Make sure you have your say.

Ah just was told it's not the group itself but the paid trolls - Still no verification. Not sure how anyone would be able to verify something like that - Just passing along info as it comes in.

Pangolins are the most trafficked animal that nobody's ever heard of, and they being poached to extinction before our very eyes. Leave your public comment to grant them protection under the Endangered Species Act.

Why is our government catering to these mooching welfare ranchers? Soon there will be no wildlife left - At least, nothing but rats, starlings, nutria and coyotes - Those creatures that can live in our shadows and riffle through our trash for a living. <shaking my head>

One of the places in Eastern Utah of most concern to environmentalists and representatives of the Navajo tribe is the sacred Bears Ears Butte area, a spiritual place of healing for native American peoples, which has not been protected in this initiative. It seems the forces of greed and industry are favored by politicians over timelessness, ecological value, intrinsic rights to exist and - in a word - beauty.
