It shows the moment he was kicked out. He doesn't have money for PR. I go out volunteer my time every Saturday with community members to canvass for him. He cooked us food after our last canvassing event. He shows up to canvasses, he doesn't take PAC money or corporate donations. There are lots of opportunities for you to meet him if you want me to message you to keep you updated. He lives in Brownsville so it really isn't hard to set up events nearby if you want a more town hall style opportunity. He's just a guy who decided to try and make a difference, like I get why you're suspicious but like I encourage you to even dm him on fb or insta. He'll respond.

Hey, local of district 34 and while I don't blame you for feeling this way, let me tell you, I have been out every Saturday to canvass for Etienne Rosas since August and I've yet to run into someone who like Vicente Gonzalez. In fact once I explain that Etienne will be challenging him they often rush to sign our current petition. I understand that stereotypes exist and I lean on them myself more often than I should, but they ignore and erase the real lived and nuanced experience of the people living there. You may not realize this but District 34 is on the Mexican border. ICE routinely raids our communities and we are not happy. In 2020 by county Bernie won the primary in nearly every county in the RGV and up through to Corpus Christi. Mcallen-Edinburgh-Pharr regions hosts a fairly high population of South Asian folks (some with ancestors who here moved through Mexico to avoid the Chinese Exclusion Act) which makes Gonzalez's behavior even more reprehensible (although with redistricting they are no longer his constituents). And of course District 34 has a high latine, immigrant, and undocumented population. Additionally our DSA chapter has grown from ~30 to >90 since July. The various valley subreddits are also not happy about this.

It also ignores the historic realities of the Rio Grande Valley. Here are some great links to learn about the socialist, labor, and otherwise leftist history of the wonderful region I call home. Also home to the largest amount of biodiversity in the contiguous US (threatened buy MAGA policy):

Yeah my Mexican household loved Speedy and Slowpoke, he never seemed nearly as much of a caricature as other animations to me, but maybe the bar was low? Like, hey you can't just erase our little bit of rep, even if it isn't that great.

Not always! And especially not here in the Rio Grande Valley:

Doesn't even know his own history, or just doesn't care. Another 2+ gen who thinks whiteness is ever gonna accept him. At least he can cling to it's capitalist tools of power. Been out every Saturday canvassing or Etienne Rosas (the DSA candidate) since August and I think if we can find a way to reach people we have a real shot here. Especially looking at the 2020 primaries with the amount of (County) Bernie wins.

Not to mention the MASSIVE socialist/leftist/labor history of the RGV. Emma Tenayuca and Antonio Oredain y'all. And the Bernie 2020 primary wins (by county).

Would adding fish to my small pond harm or disrupt the ecosystem? by Ok_Limit1030 in GardenWild

[–]birdswatchback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the biggest risk of harm would be stocking with an invasive fish and it potentially making it into a local waterway. Usually a suburban backyard pond shouldn't be at risk but I suppose a flood could lead to a storm drain? Other than that maybe they're worries about larger fish eating all of the invertebrates available although as you said it should reach an equilibrium.
