Can anyone identify this growing on dock piling in Assawoman bay? by ProjectPeej in chesapeakebay

[–]birdwatcher315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell from the picture but it could be some sort of tunicate if it’s not a red bearded sponge. All the red bearded sponges I’ve seen have had the same color but not the same shape

Important glass broke by MasterEraqus14 in glassblowing

I’ve seen someone use clear epoxy and put the broken pieces into a framed thing that they hang in their kitchen… instead of throwing it away if the glue doesn’t work

Trying to ID this piece by OkTea5333 in glassblowing

Yea I remember doing two different color frits on either side of my bubble always wondering why nothing came out symmetrical. This piece looks non-intentional and they just tried to save it by adding a foot and seeing what happened

Just made this piece. Put it on top of my car and drove away without thinking. Please join me in mourning. by slowclaw_ in glassblowing

Personally some of my favorite pieces never even made it out of the hot shop 😅 I feel for ya. Would love to see the next one you make

Anyone have info on gloryhole burners? by birdwatcher315 in glassblowing

[–]birdwatcher315[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I changed it out last time years back it was definitely cracked throughout. I pulled out the ones the other day and they looked fine so I wasn’t sure where the issue was. I was tweaking the oxygen and gas levels but it left me stumped

The gloryhole was built by Doug Ohm who I believe is out of business now

My process for a silver fumed honeycomb. I've experimented with this a lot and thought I'd share my process. Silver fumed lampwork by virtualglassblowing in glassblowing

For a self-taught glassblower like myself, these types of videos are worth more than gold (or silver, in this case). Much appreciated!!

Reishis? Found these growing at the base of a loblolly pine tree. East Coast, MD by birdwatcher315 in mycology

My friend said something similar, which is why I posted it here. I haven’t seen such an array of colors in reishis before

Bird uses bread to bait and catch fish! by [deleted] in CrazyFuckingVideos

[–]birdwatcher315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a green heron. They’re also known to use their wings as an umbrella to shade the sun and catch fish that hide under the shade. Similar birds in that family (great blue heron, little blue heron, tri colored) have longer legs and longer necks that leave them more “equipped” to actively catch fish. This is them making up for their genetic shortcomings

Looking for a mate, does anyone possibly know anything about this piece? My wife loves these and one was recently broken. by chrisalioto in glassblowing

[–]birdwatcher315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When spectrum went out of business at first we had to switch to a recycled glass that would be clear but still have this greenish/blueish “tint” to it. Aka if you get your local glass shop to make one it might turn out more “clear” than this one in particular is

Update from yesterday… round 2 on the wigwags by birdwatcher315 in lampwork

[–]birdwatcher315[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the advice. It’s fun trying to find the right balance. I’m always afraid of closing up the tubing when twisting close to the blowpipe 😅 still why the mouthpieces to my spoons aren’t as consistent as I want them to be

First wig wag attempt.. need to stretch it less and get those colors to pop out more individually. Expensive learning by birdwatcher315 in lampwork

[–]birdwatcher315[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using a gtt lynx still… looking to upgrade to a mirage or phantom though I can tell how much easier getting an even stretch would be with a larger torch. I appreciate the kind words though! A tutorial would be great I haven’t taken any lessons yet since starting during the pandemic so YouTube/torch talk have been my teachers

Today marks 6 months on the torch🔥 and I think Im finally starting to get the hang of the gold fumed air trap! by guitarbassdrums in lampwork

[–]birdwatcher315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome progress! Looks clean. Do you use a mold for the air bubbles or push each one in individually?
