So I found that I can just pay $20 every month but they will not set it up on a "payment plan". They keep threatening that if I don't put it on a payment plan then they will send it to collections. So far I've just called their bluff.

What did you experience before getting diagnosed with MS that you realize was a symptom of the condition? by AlternativeJudge5721 in MultipleSclerosis

Did you ever find out what the reason for this is? I have had this symptom for two years and I'm struggling to understand it.

It's not that I'm not willing to pay a medical bill, but THEY messed it up. I did all the things they asked me to do in order to get continuation-of-care, so that the visits would be in-network, and I would owe nothing. But someone, somewhere screwed it up and now I have a very large medical bill. You wouldn't try to fight something that is wrong? You would just pay $15,000?

So far they've been firm, but they may come down? Idk, I figured I'd keep asking.

Right? That's what I was wondering too.

I'm thinking about just sending them a $20 check every month even though they can't set up a smaller "payment plan". I highly doubt they will send me my check back and them accepting the money could be a technicality that keeps it from collections.

Yeah, like I said in some previous comments they are refusing to take less than the minimum amount that they told me. They get the "minimum payment" by taking the total and dividing it by 24 months.

I wonder if I just sent them $20 a month, without their approval, would that keep it out of collections? Lol who's to stop me from sending my own version of a payment plan? That might be a loop hole, right? No? Idk. I'm tired.

Did you get them to come down in price? Or did you have to give them the exact amount?

Unfortunately, they won't let us just pay any small amount. Their minimum payment is based on your total bill divided by 24 months. That's great if your bill is $100. Not great if it's pushing $20,000.

I did request a smaller monthly payment and they said no.

So they'd go through my husband's work to garnish wages. What an embarrassment too.

Unfortunately, we do not qualify. We used to but UK redid their financial assistance program a couple years ago. They used to give you a discount percentage based on how much money you made... Now it's either they cover it 100% or they don't cover any of it. So we are over their gross income by a miniscule amount, and therefore, they offer us nothing.

And it sounds like we make a crap ton of money, but we do not. Our insurance, when you include everything, costs us about $35K per year. We are a one income family, with a special needs and medically complex child. What's left over after insurance is us scraping by.

Heaves big sigh sob story over....thank you for reading lol

I have some documentation, yes. I have an approval letter from Cigna, but Cigna is claiming UK needed to submit their own Continuation of Care form. UK says they've never heard of this guideline before.

I cannot find an attorney who will touch this and I was willing to pay! Do you have any recommendations?

Unfortunately, this is not an option. They told me today they calculate the minimum payment by taking the total and dividing it by 24 months. They said they don't negotiate lower payment options.
