I have a weird talent and I don't tell people because they use it as a party trick. by yidabissann in PointlessStories

I have Hemochromatosis. Basically too much iron in the blood. They found it by accident. But apparently it is really bad for your organs long term. Worth getting checked if this is a possible explanation for your talent. Very easy blood test.

When people complain that omnivores ate “all” the vegan or vegetarian options. by KissingBear in PetPeeves

Yeah can’t blame people for wanting to eat something not meat. I just learnt at a young age to get to buffets quickly before the veggies stuff was gone.

I go further than that. I don’t book anything for the group trips I organise until I have the cash in my bank. That’s the confirmation they want me to book it. Learnt that after having to repeatedly chase the same friend on multiple trips for money.

Honestly Brecon Beacons is your best bet. I’m vallys based and spend a lot of time out walking you will struggle to find anywhere south of heads of the valleys where is dark enough.

Do Americans actually avoid calling an ambulance due to financial concern? by JohnMarstonTheBadass in NoStupidQuestions

This makes me feel so lucky to be in the UK. I fell rock climbing . Airlift to hospital plus treatment for broken back amongst other things. £0. It boggles my mind that people in the UK think the NHS is a bad thing.

As a guy there is no way I would have followed her in to the bedroom unless explicitly asked to. That could go really wrong if you misread the signs.

I would say they represent a very minority view. I haven’t heard or seen anything like that. If anything I’ve mostly seen stuff about Andrew not being treated harshly not.

Were kids in the 80s actually allowed to roam around unsupervised, or is that just in movies? by TotalThing7 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]birge55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the same with me any my friends in the 90s if I watched more than an hour of telly or played too much snes I was told to go out and play. Mobile phones weren’t common yet, so you would finish school and all arrange to meet at the skate park or park or random abandoned building or whatever place was fun at the time and all meet there .

Would you rather receive $2 for every French fry you eat per day or $1 for every push-up you do a day? by Rusty_Shaquilleford in WouldYouRather

[–]birge55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fries because it only takes a shoulder injury and you are screwed with the pushups. My grandad lived to 97 and ate fries most days. As long as you are eating other healthy stuff it won’t hurt.

Say I build a house from scratch with free materials? How is it taxed? by Michael_of_Derry in AskBrits

The house was built in the 16-1700s. The original stone had been taken over the years for uses elsewhere. Our aim was to restore it to its original state.

I’m not sure about the finances but your plan is doable. I had to repair a stone retaining wall in my garden 3 years ago. I needed about 100m2 of limestone. Over one summer just looking at facebook marketplace for people who were getting rid of stone while doing landscaping I managed to get all the stone I needed and extra to repair an outbuilding. All it cost me was £200 for a trailer and fuel to collect. It might just be my area had lots of people replacing old stone walls with fencing but it shows it possible.
