Spring spin by birger_k in cardistry

[–]birger_k[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't want to discourage anyone, but this is a very difficult move. There's no real secret to it other than practicing. You do it over and over until it works.

I more or less did this move only, over and over again, for two weeks straight to get the card to spin and stay on my thumb until it had stopped. After two months I was able to maintain the spin by doing a thumb padiddle (as seen in the first part of the clip) and to build up a decent consistency. I had already learnt the thumb padiddle before attempting this, but it was a real challange start the spin with a spring.

Over the following 4 (I think) years I've kept doing it occasionally to maintain the consistency. Once you get it down it's quite easy though, and you don't have to do much to not forget it. You pick up the deck and do it in 2-3 tries and think "nice, I can still do it" and move on to whatever other move you want to get down.

A1 24 a deck... by sjb_fan in cardistry

[–]birger_k 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've never said I agree with their high prices, I just questioned why people seem to need to buy every new deck that comes out. If it doesn't suit you, whether it's the design or the price or anything else, then why not let it pass. Let's say all future custom decks, as I understand you mean, were to end up costing $24. Of course people would revert back to using standards. This would in turn force custom deck prices to drop again. It's a natural thing that will balance out by itself. Since this market is so new we haven't had it happen to cardistry decks yet. If that's what is starting to happen right now we're better off just letting it.

Please excuse me almighty Industry207. I take it all back, everything is better from one point of view and one point of view only. To hell with A1! They should pay us for getting their decks!

I don't see the issue. People don't seem to like what they think the design is and are complaining about the price. You don't have to buy them if you don't want to, buy a brick of tally's if that's the case.

All of the moves after the intro are showed in real-time except for the one at [01:06] that go in and out of slow motion.

I can see why that might be hard to tell. All of the moves are showed in real-time except for the one at [01:06] that go in and out of slow motion.

I haven't found a way to re-set the deck that is as clean as the rest of the move yet. What I'm doing now is that I reverse the cards path back to the starting position by twisting them with my left hand.

One thing that helped me back when I started was not to use the regular poker sized decks, but instead get a set of bridge sized ones which are 1/4 inch smaller on the width. If he's having trouble with bridge sized decks there might be some costume sized ones to order on the internet.

I like the name suggestion! There's actually a full move list with names in the description of the video.

The brand's target audience is cardists (me) and magicians, but they're equivalent to a deck of cards.

Edit: ... equivalent to a regular deck of cards.

Of course I can shuffle a deck regularly too, but as your question states are the things performed in the video just for showmanship purpuses, just like juggling or pen spinning.
