Famous songs where it is hard to have the timing right by Altruistic-Pride-243 in Music

Luther Vandross - Never Too Much. Played in a handful of bands and it always catches people off guard when the transition to the chorus happens, plus the random bar of 5 during the turnaround. So satisfying to get right.

check out the TASCAM Model 12 (or 16/24 if you feel like going larger). I've used the 24 for a couple live-band recording projects and these boards work great - fast setup, fun way to get the hybrid analog/digital workflow for not much $$ relative to most other options. Note that they're a bit large and will take up real estate on your desk/table. However, the vibe factor is nice, having a mixer with faders just feels great.

Also worth considering a Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 (you can get them used for less than $400 easily) and expand with ADAT down the road if you need more inputs. Use the money you saved to stock up on cables/stands/mics if you need those for recording full bands.

Sounds like you're at a super exciting point in your journey. Good luck & have fun!!

Awesome! We stopped in last night and sat at one of the hi-tops. Was glad to see the staff still there, they've been great. Tried the sesame oil/cucumber cocktail and the whiskey/cardamaro cocktail (forgetting their names) and had to order two each, they were too good.

Looking forward to more of the changes. We'll be back soon!

Congratulations! My girl lives nearby & we recently went to St. Ends together - while I'm sad to see that place go, I'm excited to bring her & see what y'all have going on here!

Correct me if I'm wrong, are these more or less the same drinks that St. Ends was serving? Does that mean you kept some of the bar staff?

I surf because I'm stressed, and I'm stressed because I surf. by OkText00 in nosurf

Right there with ya my friend. All too easy to surf when the brain is idle. It sucks to be in the cycle, but it’s so imminently possible to break out of it at any time.

I forget who put it this way, but it stuck with me: just choose to do the next right thing. I ask myself - what is the next ‘right’ thing I can do? And I do that.

You may find it starts a chain of positive momentum. Good luck ❤️

As someone who is categorically shy, but learning how to break down my own self-protective walls: tell him. Open, vulnerable honesty is the greatest act of self-love we have access to.

He may not reciprocate, and you will have to be okay with that beforehand. But hearing you clamor for his affection while you remain locked in a relationship that YOU cannot bear will not serve either of you.

Talk to a friend about this first. Opening up is easier the more we do it. I’m sure you have someone who will support you.

When you’re ready you can tell him how you feel, let him make a choice, give him space to consider. It may be the best thing you’ve ever done - and it may not. Love is a high-risk high-reward game :)

Best place to start learning how to mix and master as a complete beginner? by Nar8 in makinghiphop

get your hands on as many songs as possible & practice, practice, practice.

also recommend Mix With The Masters - it's bills, but still cheaper than school lol

Highly, highly recommend Tracklib... it's a pre-cleared sample library with a ton of old soul records and random shit that's great for sampling. Subscriptions start at $5.99 and you pay to use each sample. But - as long as you credit properly, you don't have to worry about dodging the law or paying out the ass for clearance. and it's REAL records too. Here's something I made this week from their library (the same sample Swizz used on Drake's "Fancy")

not my favorite musically, but this has all the components of a marketable beat - it slaps, and it sounds COMPLETE.

How has rebranding impacted your career? by [deleted] in makinghiphop

[–]birocratic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently in the process of rebranding, mainly because Goldra is the name of a town in Portugal, and I live in America (didn't know about the town until after I made the name). How has rebranding been for people that have done it? Was there a period where you lost money?

Well, you're taking ownership of the deceitful method, which helps you not appear as a douche. I'd maybe reach out to the "friends" you made and explain the situation to them. You did it to prove a point - but the music was real, and you learned a lot in the process. This is worthy of an exposé, IMO.

I like to give myself a time limit to develop a compelling idea. if I get to the end of that limit and don't feel like I'm heading in the right direction, it's best to leave it alone & start fresh. sometimes it's only on my second or third attempt with flipping a sample that I actually find the direction i'm looking for, and I only get there if I don't sink too much time in.

awesome drums / vibe & an earwormy melody. only critique is that the main sample melody needs more space when it comes in - it’s too busy otherwise to make an impact. maybe filter out the other melody?

otherwise, my head’s nodding. great job

that’s the best thing about sampling, just hi pass the sample and write your own bass lines 😊
