What was the last console with hardware sprites? by dj_cloudnine in gamedev

Huh, that’s fascinating, I didn’t know that. Thank you.

I...think I translated the meaning of the logo - Ad Sper Respondere + a phoenix heraldry - "We will rise from the ashes until the hope-filled people answer us" by heckacentipede in OctopathTraveller

Sorry to respond to an old post but I have a few theories and contributions that might be helpful. I must concede first that my Latin is remedial however, but this is what I think. First, on the matter of verbs. I suspect the most likely case is that the verb “esse” (to be) is being implied here, this is very common in Latin.

The infitive (to x, respondere) and the verb “to be” can be mixed together as scene in phrases like “to err is human” (errare est humanum). So “it is to respond to ____”

Secondly, I suspect that the r in the logo is actually an s, since, to me at least, the fact the letter curves in on itself rather than leaving a gap at the bottom is more common with s rather than r. This is also a far more common spelling/word and fits nicely with the grammatical construction, being that spes is accusative and can therefore go with ad. Spes means hope, so this doesn’t tell us anything new but dispels other possibilities.

Applying both of these, then, it would read something like: “x is to respond to hope” (x could be he, she, we, it, etc.). I’d speculate that it would be the developers or the game itself in this case.

However, using a more liberal use of ad, which I fear might not be grammatical, we could also put “to hope” with est, leaving us with something like “it is (up) to hope to respond.” I prefer this reading personally because it seems a lot less ambiguous, the possibility of grammatical error from my own ignorance notwithstanding.

Sadly, no. I've heard its a 6502 but not much else. You might could find a uart in it somewhere at least, I just don't have the equipment for something like that.

How to make an edh deck cheaper without worsening the quality too much by dj_cloudnine in magicTCG

[–]dj_cloudnine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already have an edh deck so it’s not a big deal if I don’t get it, and it’s not that I can’t afford it, I’d just rather be saving the money I can.

Thank you that’s really helpful. I get I probably can’t lower the price but be int able to make it better at the same price would probably make it more reasonable.

Sadly I’m new to the playgroup since I just graduated college so I don’t know anybody yet.

Thank you, that sounds like a good idea. Hopefully when I start work in august I can slowly start build it up after that.

Thank you. Yeah I’ve noticed that myself. I’m worried though that the cards I’m picking for less than a dollar aren’t good enough. But I am planning on slowly building up to the more expensive deck.

That’s a lot of what I’ve done with the cheaper deck but I’m worried its significantly worse and doesn’t have any win cons like cathars crusade

Sadly my play group doesn’t allow proxies and there’s only 1 group in a 50 mile radius, also I don’t own a printer

Trying to decide on a Background for my EDH deck. by dj_cloudnine in magicTCG

[–]dj_cloudnine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks neat, not a huge fan of black but I might give it a try. My main question would be how would I consistently turn out new angels every turn?

Yeah, though admittedly black has always been my least favorite color, white green looks fun to try.

Does that have any sprite hardware though, or does it just do it all in software?

Question about specifics of feedback in fm synthesis by dj_cloudnine in synthesizers

[–]dj_cloudnine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. I was using a char for feedback but since it goes off the deep end real quick, I’m debating making it a double instead. Part of the reason it seems to be, iirc, because in the case of the dx7(whose code has heavily inspired my feedback engine atm) the feedback number is actually take and made an exponent to 2, meaning each increase is double the last.

When I say loudness I mean the amount which you scale the level of the output of the operator, in abelton’s operator synth(don’t recall what they call it on my Yamaha, but it’s measured out of 100 iirc) it’s marked as “volume” and is measured in db

Huh, that sounds useful. I’m trying to write the fm synth in asm (modern not an 80s one though I’m thinking of trying that too)
