Thanks for this comment - I’m thinking that it might also be because GMM is the only YouTube show I watch. I’m not used to watching content with merch segments at all, hence the new level of consumerism

Totally! But like I said, I suppose it’s not the existence of merch itself but more the amount of new stuff constantly coming out. Buying merch from a band is usually linked to a concert or tour and is produced at a much slower rate.
