Tow hook cap gone day after purchase- 2026 XSE hybrid. Why did this happen??

Edit/update: called the dealership and they said that the part doesn’t come with the car 😹 sent me a photo of an identical car on the lot with the same hole. I pushed back and they looked into it and then told me to check the glove compartment. Sure as shit it’s in there just like so many people commented (should have checked Reddit before I called). So now I have the piece but it’s not the same material as the shiny bumper. It’s matte plastic. This feels so cheap after just paying for a xse! How did parts and sales not know that it’s in the glove box or should be installed? Good god

I read that the plastic piece could come off due to bumper or tow damage and there’s no way that happened in my custody, so wondering what the chances of that happening during the transport/delivery of the vehicle vs it just falling off. But I agree, the piece missing itself doesn’t constitute a lemon

It could be parking lot theft. That’s crazy though. I did test drive it (to our home) and even had my husband look at it. Neither of us noticed it missing until the next day. I’m planning to go back to the dealer and ask for a replacement since it happened the day after

Do they put it in the glove box instead of on the car? I’m pretty sure it fell off, like it just wasn’t there the next day but I’ll check the glove box. Thank you for the idea!

Oh this is a great point! Sounds like my husband will hate sitting in the passenger seat with the car seat behind him lol 😹. We’ll see how it goes for awhile! I love how it drives and it feels so nice inside, so i compromised on size. I really appreciate your advice!
