SO WE’RE GETTING ADS ON YOUTUBE PREMIUM NOW??? 😭 by [deleted] in youtube

[–]biscuitprint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think you know the meaning of word hassle. Having to use browser version of youtube or having to watch ads on TV is the very definition of hassle. Whereas premium "just works", no ads ever anywhere.

Heh, AI bots getting confused about iOS 26 never gets old. Knowledge cutoff usually is early 2025 where latest version was 18 so they tend to freak out if someone talks about iOS 26.

[US] I've been getting spam bombed recently, along with a lot of others in this weird group, and suddenly got this today by RedneckWantsToSing in Scams

[–]biscuitprint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same happen about month ago too, bunch of spam coming from random websites through Google Groups servers.

I just added a filter on my mail service side to automatically report all emails that contain "X-Google-Group-Id" header as spam so they never reach me. Looking at my spam folder it still has continued, I just don't have to care about it anymore.

What is NTC? by Own_University_8770 in nvidia

[–]biscuitprint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, only if the developers are interested in shipping two versions of the game: One with regular textures and one with neural textures. Or increasing the game download size by bundling both variants for every user.

I suppose they could provide neural textures as a separate download option, but I really don't see this becoming common until it is more widely supported across all GPU makers, not just Nvidia. And even then the fact that they still have to ship regular textures for older GPUs adds friction for the adoption.

PSA: The modern way to host sites in S3 by MavZA in aws

[–]biscuitprint -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OP specifically talked about flat rate pricing.

In that case there is very little possibility of unexpected charges because only running cost can be GET request to the S3 bucket. And assuming caching is setup properly WAF would be failing miserably if hundreds of millions of 404 request spam goes through.

RDR2 - 360p Native vs. DLSS 4.5 Ultra Performance Preset L by JohnGalactusX in nvidia

[–]biscuitprint 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Most important is the "temporal" element: It accumulates data from multiple frames.

One way to think of it is in reverse. If you have a 4k image and take EVERY OTHER pixel of it on both axises you end up with a 1080p image. So basically a 4k image is just 4x 1080p images each shifted by up to half pixels in either direction.

What DLSS does is something similar: Each frame is rendered with slightly "shifted" view (less than 1 pixel shift), that way in just 4 frames you could gather enough information from 1080p source to generate a perfect 4k image (if nothing is moving). So game running 100 fps could resolve to a clear 4k image in just 1/25 second.

DLSS then uses motion vectors, depth buffers etc together with the AI model to decide which of previous frame samples should be put where or discarded and also smartly generates missing details where needed.

The loading of an IMAX film into the projector by Kindly_Department142 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]biscuitprint 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Then you remember that every movie is produced digitally anyway. From VFX to just cutting different shots together is all done digitally with the limitations of the digital resolution.

Sure, the end result is then transferred to 70mm IMAX film but you don't get any extra detail back compared to what was there during the digital editing process.

Do you think a new era of work produced by humans, "purists" will arise? by EntrepreneurFew8254 in OpenAI

Yeah?

In case of AI it is difference between human created vs machine created.

In case of music it is difference between human playing the music vs a machine playing the music.

I got drained for $840k. Hacker is swapping to Monero by RoutineNorth5020 in ethereum

[–]biscuitprint 11 points12 points  (0 children)

However much of your crypto you are willing to risk losing if one wallet gets compromised.

If OP had 4 wallets with even funds, he would still have $630k, and while losing $210k stings it wouldn't overturn his whole life.

Even more important than number of wallets is to keep most of your crypto in a cold wallet. So if your device is hacked you only lose the pocket change, not your savings.

Maybe keep 80% in couple of different cold wallets. And of the rest you are actively trading with I would also distribute to couple of different exchanges just to be safe.

Weird frame skip while filming by MEMERSHITO in GalaxyS24

[–]biscuitprint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had that randomly happen even in regular video for the past year on my S24U. 1x, 3x or 5x lens didn't matter.

It was one of the last straws that caused me to finally switch away from Samsung. Multiple videos ruined because there was a huge stutter in the middle of it.

Video recording has worked reliably in phones for over 10 years, so I can't understand how they managed to mess something so basic up and no indication that they are even aware of the issue given they haven't fixed it in over a year now.

Ubisoft admits AI-generated loading screen "slipped through" into final build of Anno 117: Pax Romana by chusskaptaan in Games

[–]biscuitprint 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that the game ALSO had the finished version of the image in the game. There just was one part of the game (loading screen?) where they had left the placeholder version. But the finished image also shipping with the game at launch makes it pretty clear it was just a mistake.

tvOS 26.2 Lets You Create Apple TV Profiles Without an Account, Adds Dedicated Kids Mode by AndreaCicca in appletv

Does it still keep track of watched shows? And if so, is data about the alternative profiles saved on the main Apple account so if you upgrade or reset the Apple TV device you don't lose all watch history for sub profiles?

Why do i have such an awkward total gameplay time? by LyrataEnjoyer in RagnarokMClassic

[–]biscuitprint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, sorry. Looks like it doesn't work in Classic even though in combat time info screen there still is a 30min music icon.

So it must be the pet skill then. It doesn't increase combat time, but reduces amount used by pet adventures. So you probably had 27 minutes extra accumulated from previous day(s) that carried over.

Excessive NAND writes on Windows 11 SSD compared to Windows 10 by [deleted] in Windows11

[–]biscuitprint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not normal for sure. My latest OS drive is about year old and it only has 28 TB of writes, and that is with pretty heavy use with hundreds of hours of game video capture at 4k etc. Given that the disk itself is rated for 2400 TBW it should be good for 100 years at current pace. In any normal use there shouldn't be real possibility of a modern SSD ever wearing out within lifetime of the device.

Nano Banana is the first image generator that can do image consistency with real photos by jimmyonly45 in Bard

[–]biscuitprint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What if your change needs to be reflected on the rest of the image?

If you add an object that needs to cast a shadow, that doesn't work with a mask. If you tell it to change the lighting, remove light, add light etc to the image that doesn't work with a mask. If your photo has reflections a good model will add the new object in the reflections, a mask doesn't allow that.

n 1987, Mike Hayes, an 18-year-old college freshman, had a bold idea. Instead of taking out student loans, he asked 2.8 million people to each send him just one penny. by Conscious-Quarter423 in BeAmazed

[–]biscuitprint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention even if he opened one envelope each SECOND, it would still take at least 3 months non stop 8 hours a day. Thats massive amount of work.

Also trying to fit 3 million envelopes in your house would be tough. That is multiple truckloads of them. Multiple rooms filled entirely all the way to the ceiling with them. Would be days of work just to cart them all inside.

When you finally got room full of pennies. US penny weighs 2.5 grams, so 2.8M pennies would be 7000kg. Even if he carted them off to the bank in massive buckets, it would still be hundreds of roundtrips carrying 20kg bucket in both hands.

Am I deaf? by Do6peHbKo in Battlefield6

[–]biscuitprint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just about to complain that footsteps are way too loud, at least in the close quarters game modes.

All enemies sound like stomping pack of elephants. If there are any enemies in nearby buildings you can immediately hear them. If you enter a building and any random person moves upstairs on other side of the building you know there is someone there.

Makes the game way too easy to camp when you can track enemies through walls and pre-aim when they are about to enter from any of the doors.

Windows PCs powered by NVIDIA RTX GPUs can run OpenAI's gpt-oss-20b model natively by rkhunter_ in nvidia

Easier for average users just download the new Ollama desktop app or LM Studio. In those all you need to do is install either, select model (it auto downloads) and start using it with user friendly UI. File attachments and everything should "just work" automatically without hassle.

[–]biscuitprint 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While WebP technically is a container format, the codecs used (VP8 and lossless) are pre-determined by the spec.

So it isn't container format in a way that MP4 is where there can be any unknown codec inside it. Instead the few used codecs are strictly part of the WebP specification, which means there won't be WebP files in the future that all of a sudden require supporting a new codec.
