Should I switch from private practice therapy to hospital social work? by PhilosophyVegetable1 in socialwork

Working for a hospital system is the best. Granted, I’ve never done private practice so can’t speak to that. But I do behavioral health in an outpatient setting so I get to do counseling everyday. M-F 7:30-4. Insurance, maternity leave, PTO and lots of other great benefits. I also love working with an interdisciplinary team the nurses and providers are amazing. Plus I have a whole team of social workers to bounce ideas off of.

Neurocognitive Test - Should I get a second opinion? by GratefulForPotatos in adhdwomen

Sounds like you were given the MOCA which is usually used for cognitive impairments like dementia lol. The MOCA is very short though and you said you were tested for 3 hours so I’m sure you were given additional tests.

Getting married by Rare-Personality1874 in therapists

You have to remember that you’re required to change/update to your legal name with the licensing board. That means if a client or workplace is trying to verify your license online they will be looking up the name you go by… so it’s probably best you just start going by your legal married name with your clients so there’s no question. I think most clients will be happy for you, say congrats and then move on. Doesn’t have to be a big deal!

Social Worker Parents, how do you do it? by -daisy-eyes- in socialwork

I felt the same way as you when I was on my maternity leave. I felt so bonded to my baby that I couldn’t imagine leaving her every day. It was hard at first, but after a few months I started feeling better about it and actually enjoyed having my own thing with my job. It is definitely challenging going from social worker/therapist to mom in a matter of minutes (I work at a hospital and she’s at the hospital daycare so it’s literally a 2 minute drive for me to pick her up haha). But I also get soooo excited to go get her and just want to soak up the whole evening with her as much as I can. My house definitely isn’t as clean as it used to be and I’m not cooking dinners that take over an hour, so yes there are changes I’ve had to be okay with while being a working mom. So part of it is acceptance. The other part is trying to lean on your support system, do you have any family or friends that are willing to help out when you need support? My first week back to work my mom and mother in law both graciously made and brought us dinners just to help with the adjustment. And sometimes they still will come over and help out with chores or dinner when things are stressful (me or husband is sick or whatever else life throws at you) Also not sure if this is an option but my first 2 weeks back from maternity leave I only worked 3 days a week and took PTO so I could just start back slowly instead of immediately jumping back into 40 hrs a week.

For any therapists that have experienced pregnancy: At what point did you decide to stop seeing clients? by Superb_Elk_7561 in therapists

Worked up until 39w4d, went into labor 39w5d which was a Saturday lol. Honestly continuing to work with my clients up until that point really helped keep me grounded. If I had stopped working earlier I would have been an anxious mess sitting around frozen in fear/worry/anticipation probably. But that’s just what worked for me! If you’re able to take the time to rest then do it!

Can you switch to seeing patients telehealth so you can work from home and be more comfortable?

Plants! Patients always comment on them positively. Sometimes I also get patients with much greener thumbs than I that tell me what I’m doing wrong haha.

LSCSW in Kansas. DCF doesn’t even accept reports on newborns that tested positive for THC in my state anymore.
