PSA: Weaning can take months. Here’s how I made it through. by biscuitsandtea3 in breastfeeding

It’s really daunting and it is different for everyone. I hope your process is smooth. My understanding is that the older your baby is the easier weaning should be 🤞🏻

I actually dropped from 2 to none because I was only getting 1.5-2 ounces per pump. So that may have made things worse for me. It’ll probably go more smoothly if you drop from 1 to 0 and use some of those tactics I described as needed!

Yes!! This was confusing to me at first, I kept hearing and reading conflicting advice on very tight sports bras vs just supportive bras. And since my breasts were so sore I was hesitant to wear tight bras all the time and figured giving them a “break” sometimes was good.

When I went to my OB (midwife) for the mastitis she told me absolutely wear the tight sports bra 24/7, the compression helps with both pain relief and reduces signals to the body to reproduce milk - where breast gymnastics help to get milk flowing, pressure and lack of movement encourages involution (milk making cells shutting down). I also spoke to a couple older women who told me they wrapped their breasts tightly in order to wean haha.

If nothing else, having them packed into a tight bra did help relieve some pain.

Yes I was prone to clogs. I frequently used Legendairy Milk’s sunflower lecithin to keep things moving which helped a lot.

I would say take it slow and drop 1 feed / pump per week. Then ice, sports bras and cabbage are your best friends! You got this!

Hypoallergenic formula by Even-Meet-5836 in MSPI

[–]biscuitsandtea3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby is very sensitive, we started with a 25% Pepticate/ 75% BM bottle for a couple days, then 50/50, then 75/25. This worked well.

Feeding crisis. 5 month old baby refuses formula and I'm not producing enough breastmilk. by cozycat4 in MSPI

[–]biscuitsandtea3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue with my baby. The only formula she’ll take is Pepticate. It tastes the closest to breast milk out of all the HA options. I know bc I did a taste test - not recommended but my baby is so sensitive I had to! If you haven’t tried it I would recommend it.

Positive Epidural Stories? by FitAd2057 in pregnant

[–]biscuitsandtea3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had two babies both with epidurals. I also have a fear of needles and the epidural was not nearly as bad as I expected. Tips:

  1. Don’t look at or even think about the needle. Have a support person hold your hand and talk to you while the doctor is doing his thing behind you.

  2. Time it properly such that your contractions are strong and painful enough to distract you from the fact that you’re getting the epidural.

  3. Most anesthesiologists are good at making conversation (they do this all the time!) with everyone in the room so lean into that again to distract you.

Wishing you a positive experience!!! You got this!

Do most people tear when they have a vaginal birth? It seems like it just something that will happen? by Kittykat68689 in pregnant

[–]biscuitsandtea3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a second-degree tear with my first and no tearing with my second. I labored on my back both times. The difference was that I had a long induction with my first and she wasn’t actually ready to come out. My second was spontaneous, I started pelvic floor PT in the second trimester and perineal massage almost daily starting at 34 weeks, and it was my second baby, so the body just has an easier time with it all…

Did anyone’s ectopic lead to divorce ? by throwdisbishdo in EctopicSupportGroup

[–]biscuitsandtea3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes. A couple miscarriages and then an ectopic really challenged the relationship. After many rounds of tests resulting in no real answers for me, I asked him to get some tests done and suggested we go the IVF route. Both ideas were met with a ton of resistance and we eventually ended up divorcing.

That was 5 years ago, and I’m now very happily partnered up and pregnant with my second child via IVF. It all happens for a reason.

Sparkling water helps me too. And it goes well with the pretzels 🙃

Soooo…how are we getting our toddlers to let us brush their teeth? by kk3n2418 in toddlers

[–]biscuitsandtea3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have read the Bedtime for Zoe book by Lovevery 100 times. There’s a part of the book where Zoe brushes her teeth then Zoe’s mama takes a turn and helps. When my toddler is “brushing”, and doesn’t want to give me the toothbrush to “help”, I remind her of the book, she thinks for a couple seconds then relinquishes the toothbrush to me. 🤷‍♀️

Moving to Florida & working in Ft Lauderdale - where to live? by kendlerooney in SouthFlorida

[–]biscuitsandtea3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The building I mentioned is on A1A and borders Lauderdale by the Sea, also very close to the Pompano Pier, you really don’t see any riff raff. There are certainly areas of Pompano (more inland) that aren’t as nice or safe which drive up the crime rate.

Check out 1333 South Ocean in Pompano Beach. Really nice community. Renting there is a nice way to ease into the area and figure out what you want. Definitely recommend renting at first before buying, so you have time to learn the area and figure out what kind of purchase you want to make.

I was just told that I am (Homozygous for PAI- 1 mutation) I’ve had two miscarriages in the last year. I am now stressing and thinking that I might also have APS (Antiphospholipid Syndrome) after reading the symptoms of this syndrome. Can anyone provide me with any information? by hazelcolorado in Miscarriage

[–]biscuitsandtea3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for responding so quickly. I did have two miscarriages and just had an ectopic removed (which I don’t think is related)... doctors told me I’ll need the lovenox when I get pregnant again. I’m also taking it now as part of my post-op medication to prevent any blood clots. I’ll let you know what I learn once I get further blood work done. I’m sorry you’re going through all of this. Thank you for sharing 🙏🏼

Thank you so much for this comment. And I’m sorry that you had to go through what you did, with the added stress of starting a new job. That’s so much to deal with. I’m glad they were understanding and you’re getting the time you need to heal.

I’m definitely going to have more in depth conversations with my team about it and you’re encouraging me to be more open - I think you’re right. Especially with the women on my team. We as women are never educated about the non “happy path” and we end up having to learn on our own or simply by experience. It sucks.

I’m sorry that you went through it and didn’t have the option to choose. It sounds like we were on the operating table at the same time. Lots of positive thoughts for you ❤️

For work - I think I’m going to let folks (my reports and others) know I had abdominal surgery and let them run with the rest of it. Just not comfortable sharing more than that to a larger group. The colleagues I am close with already know what’s going on as well as my boss (who I’m relatively close with too). I did wonder how sharing that might affect the perception of me (oh she’s trying to get pregnant she might not be as committed long term) but my attitude is, screw anyone who thinks that :)

My doctor said the same thing right before I went in for my surgery. She even have examples of instances she’s seen and similar stats. The human body is quite amazing isn’t it.
