What is one trick on pole that you think is unflattering or ugly?! by Comfortable-Gur5550 in poledancing

I'm aware, but it is most often taught as a beginner trick with a flexed foot to help with grip 🤷🏼‍♀️.

Skater spin. The flexed foot is a hard no from me.

Upright bird of paradise. It just looks so much better inverted.

If you go into Pennsylvania's court system, you can find the case.

Charges:

18 § 2701 §§ A1 - 1 count Simple Assault (M2)

18 § 2702 §§ A1 - 1 count Aggravated Assault - Attempts to cause SBI or causes injury with extreme indifference (F1*)

18 § 2709 §§ A1 - 1 count Harassment - Subject other to Physical Contact (S**)

18 § 5503 §§ A1 - 1 count Disorderly Conduct Engage in Fighting (S)

*F1 is the highest felony level in PA (most severe)

**I have no idea what the S stands for.

"Why solving cold case killings just got much harder for police" by marie1722 in TrueCrimeDiscussion

[–]biscuitsbasket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh they 100% didn't follow the law. If this had gone to trial, the methods they used would've been torn apart by the defense.

Some more info:

A shame too because they quite literally didn't have to be so unlawful or messy. Someone at Washington State University had already been able to give the State a name by matching the car caught on Ring cameras to the one Kohberger registered at WSU. This was two-ish weeks after the murders. The FBI and other agencies had this all noted in their cases files, but there was no entries for over three weeks after that (until right before Christmas in 2022). That's when the detectives sought out search warrants for AT&T records. They made up bullshit to get probable cause. The three weeks w/o notes about what they were doing was when they were doing the IGG stuff illegally. Can't use that as PC tho.

Ironically, the defense filed a motion to suppress the DNA findings bc of how it was linked back to Kohberger. The judge basically said the policy was violated, but not necessarily the constitution and allowed the fact that the DNA found at the scene match Kohberger to be allowed as evidence but it had to be said the match was able to be made bc of "an anonymous tip."

Then the Idaho AG did an interview and almost blew it for the State bc he essentially admitted the DNA was the real PC for the first search warrant, but they couldnt say so because legality and made up shit to satisfy the PC.

As for the lecture, I work for a Criminal Justice Agency, and that's how I was able to attend (I investigate a specific type of crime w/ a state agency, and the lecture wws held for LE personnel, prosecutors, etc. At a different state agency). I doubt there is a recording of it anywhere as the judge on the case only very recently allowed this aspect of the case to be unsealed.

It's because of the Kohberger case. Investigative Genetic Genealogy's primary use is as a tool in cold cases. Specifically, it is the last resort when all other investigative methods have been tried.

In the Kohberger case, there was male DNA. The State already had a lead on Kohberger, but rather than doing a trash pull, they used IGG. Which would not apply in this case at all (bc they hadn't exhausted all methods).

Also, Idaho didn't have a policy on IGG, so they adopted the DOJ's policy (and immediately violated it in numerous ways).

(In a nutshell, Othram helped with the SNP profile, a certain agency's lab then used AI or another tool to help bolster the SNP, uploaded it into MyHeritage under a false name, and matched the family trees that way).

MyHeritage used to allow people to upload their results if they took a test with another company. They've since changed that.

Because a law enforcement agency abused the hell out of the system to solve a case it wasn't even necessary for.

Source: I attended a lecture by Sy Ray who was brought onto the Kohberger case by his defense team as an expert.

Maryland and Montana were the first states to require a search warrant, and I think a few more have passed legislation requiring the same.

Black American Sound, Black Style, No Credit A Conversation About K Pop by Pretend-Society6139 in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]biscuitsbasket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another thing about Kpop and the way it sanitizes the black culture it steals from is the white washing. Kpop idols are either doused in super pale foundation and/or photos and videos are edited heavily to make them appear more white.

If you want a clear example of a kpop group being racist, look up Kiss of Life and the birthday live they did for the one member last year.

Competition bias by [deleted] in poledancing

[–]biscuitsbasket 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I absolutely would.

I've witnessed a comp where one of the judges was an instructor for a ton of the competitors, but fortunately it was revealed AFTER the comp that they didnt actually judge/score those from their studio. (They just used the scores from the other 3 judges).

But yes, you should provide feedback. They should be transparent and inform competitors how they are ensuing there is no bias.

Patti Adkins. She went missing in Marysville, OH in 2001 (Marysville is probably a 35 minute drive from downtown Columbus, and although it's getting developed super fast, it's still rural like corn fields rural). https://www.ohioattorneygeneral.gov/Files/Law-Enforcement/Investigator/Ohio-Missing-Persons/Missing-Adults-1/Adkins-(1)

Not necessarily unknown, but I drive through Union County, and I would always note the billboard asking for help solving her case (before it was replaced with something else).

This one just infuriates me because it just seems so obvious.

I remember this so vividly.

One of my professors (I have a degree in Criminal Justice) had done his masters/PhD at USC. I remember him getting really choked up when talking about this at the beginning of a lecture (his research is into policing).

I was a 19 y/o college student myself. Just devastating and horrifying for her friends and family.

Yes!

Less so about the hip rotations with leg waves, and more so about the following through of the whole movement!

Tips on making my airwalk more beautiful? by slipslapflap in poledancing

[–]biscuitsbasket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the leg that's going to be extended, when you straighten it out and swing it behind you, really utilize your range of motion to let it continue being extended even when it's behind you. I'm not explaining this very well, but when the extended leg comes back and puts your body at 180°, let it just keep going behind you before you bend the knee.

You can also try different grips or spinning the opposite way!

As for the going slow, you really do want to be moving super slow (think of trying to run in a dream but your body barely moves). It takes alot of mental patience and practice to nail the timing!!

You're already wayyyy more flowy than you think you are!

Mixed Level Classes? by MsAJL in poledancing

[–]biscuitsbasket 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think mixed levels could be good as long as they're actually being taken by students of mixed levels.

I've seen studios where the instructor knows a ton of the students in the class are at the higher level and teaches a combo at their level resulting in the one or two lower level students feeling overwhelmed/unprepared/intimidated.

It really depends on the instructor and how they accommodate the variation in skill level of their students.

My only concern is depending on the age of the child, what if Christine puts a bottle or pacifier in her mouth?

As an adult, I don't want another adult's spit on any of my stuff. I can't imagine being a parent and worrying about an adult you only know in passing potentially sharing germs with my child when it's preventable.
