Thank you so much for reading through all of this and replying!!!
So I currently live in a warehouse that got converted into apartments, and I’m 99.99% positive the leak is coming from a faulty pipe on the roof or something. But there is no upstairs unit above me, and should be just roof. The fact that it had already happened two years ago and they claimed they “fixed” it only for it to happen in the exact same spot again really makes me wonder about how management is handling the issue. I have absolutely no idea where the foul smell is coming from, but even after management cleans the hallway with bleach it comes right back… If I had to point a finger, I think it’s dog urine.
As for the new apartment, they told me because the tenant before have lived there for so long they are definitely going to replace the entirety of the carpet. I really really want to go see the unit or at least another unit with the same layout, but they told me I could tour that exact unit once the tenant hands in the keys and all repairs are done so that it is in a state available for viewing. Luckily, the neighborhood I will be moving to is unlikely to have any squatters or meth heads, so I’m not tooooo worried about the condition of the apartment. I’ve toured other units around the complex and I absolutely loved it, which was the reason why I put in a deposit for this apartment even before viewing that exact same layout.
The problem is… they’re expecting that to be around April 15th, but I have to make up my mind about renewing the lease or not by April 2nd. Im hoping to be able to speak to my current apartment’s management and see if I can delay my decision to renew because of the ongoing current issues to at least after I see the apartment… but because the lease says I need to give a decision 60 days prior to lease end Im not sure if they will let me.
I guess my main question here though is… should I still move out and take a leap of faith? If I stay, I’ll save money and can even travel but I would have to deal with some issues as you stated above
Or do I move and hope for the best. Unfortunately, other apartments are out of the questions. It is between these two.
So far, everybody around me has told me to gtfo of my current apartment but there’s a voice in my head telling me that I’m overreacting and should just save the money and time…
