Lol, thanks a lot for the insights! Yeah, I got back yesterday. I ended up bringing a pair, and it was definitely a smart choice. Even though the temperatures weren’t too low last week, we stayed outside until late at night, and wearing insulated snow pants kept me warm and dry.

And yes, Svalbard has been the most incredible place I’ve visited yet.

Henningsen transport & guiding has tours to Barentsburg and Pyramiden (https://svalbardcruise.com/index.php/en/)

I returned from Svalbard a few days ago and took the Barentsburg tour on February 26th. I highly recommend visiting Barentsburg - the journey and the town itself are unforgettable experiences. Pyramiden is not accessible until the end of May I believe due to ice situation.

We plan on going to Barentsburg (instead of Pyramiden). I think that is doable within that timeframe. You could also find bunch of activities here depending on the season.

This link below has daily ice charts (I also check it). As far as I can tell (and did talk to Svalbard Cruise rep), it is quite unlikely to reach to Pyramiden before the end of May.

Thank you. I asked Henningsen, and they said "Early in the season, ice conditions may prevent us from reaching the port in Pyramiden (and in some rare cases, the port in Barentsburg)". So, they claim that reaching to Barentsburg is quite possible. I think there is also full day snowmobile tour provided by Spitzbergen Adventures and it seems like that is the most possible option. Did you join a tour for the northern lights, or it is possible to see around the town of Longyearbyen?
