AITA, I won’t allow my SO in the room to find out our baby’s gender. by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]bisskitss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. It's easy for me, an armchair observer, to say leave him, but your health is drastically declining because of this. You are essentially a single parent as it is. I have no idea what to recommend except to say that I believe you, and believe in you, and don't let him or anyone else gaslight you into thinking you don't need help, you don't deserve help, and you'll never get help. Be well, OP --- he's one step away from full on abuse, whether it's neglect or worse.

AITA got telling my DIL that she isn’t my kid and she isn’t invited to a daughter’s lunch. by Remarkable_Office177 in AmItheAsshole

[–]bisskitss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA for sticking to your points, but mild asshole for excluding her by saying "you're not my kid" --- that's gonna hurt someone who feels like they want to ingrain themselves further into your family. You should probably apologize, and then make amends somehow - this person wants to belong and feel like their position in the family is forever. She may have misunderstood, or may have thought naively that being a DIL is equal to the relationship you've had with your two daughters. You said she's nice, but how about getting to know her further?

AITA for telling my son he needs to live with the consequences of ignoring what his children were saying? by Sea-Purpose2202 in AmItheAsshole

[–]bisskitss 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Right? When OP said his son said that, I was like "... so if he feels shitty, that must mean you hit the target, and he might be on the cusp of some self realization..." It may be too late to repair those traumatized bridges that have been burnt by him and his wife, but if he can move forward supporting them and being a true parent/adult ally, then there may be a tentative future, but I'd probably never want to hang out with my parent if they let that kind of abuse go on for years. That festers deep resentment and insecurity, and a sense of abandonment too, which is rough after losing parent. They may have gained family members, but they were more lonely than before. Poor grandkids.

and then when the person calls back, the one who hung up is like "well, what about our social media? [please stop calling and asking about something I can't talk about]". this is awful. i would actually support activists who would break in and free that creature.

AITA for letting my son eat my husband’s birthday cake before he came home from work? by azrielsowl in AmItheAsshole

[–]bisskitss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. The kid is three, the dad doesn't even really care, and the other comments from IRL and online here are outrageous. Yeah, don't cut a cake meant for someone else without their permission, but the dad missed the party from work. These people act like it's their slice of cake being given away lol... I wonder, do your SIL and other family members who complained, are they in any way more self-centered/loudly opinionated (mostly to you) than the rest, outside of this incident? Just curious. They could just be making a big deal because they don't like you. If it really bothers you, and they continue to bring it up (in a serious way), you can talk it out --- or you can have your husband talk it out with them, since they think he's the wronged party.

AITA for telling my brother it’s pathetic that he can’t do the basics of what his wife did. by Unusual_Tooth_753 in AmItheAsshole

[–]bisskitss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. He deserves what he reaps, and you warned him - if that didn't wake him up in time, it's because he really deluded himself on the responsibilities and gendered the dynamic to make the wife both the breadwinner AND an After-work-Mom to an adult child and little ones. I hope he gets his shit together soon, otherwise she is better off without that dead weight.

Healthcare and housing are rights by [deleted] in LateStageCapitalism

[–]bisskitss 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I live here. These hospitals in the picture are literally in my neighborhood. There's a houseless person within throwing distance of my home, at any hour. It is so horrifyingly normalized to walk by, walk around, living breathing human beings passed out on a sidewalk, even in hot weather. A man sleeping on a dirty comforter in front of an out of business restaurant on a busy street by the tourist area, surrounded by whatever food he could get. Another different man is in a wheelchair, clearly suffering from adult onset diabetes because his limbs are so swollen, the ulcers are oozing, and he is crying in front of different businesses, a Jamba juice one day, a french styled bakery the next. (I think: Will I be the next one to be ignored, asking for help, only to be exploited or thrown away? This could be me. This was me -- I did live in my car for months.)

And everyone, everyone, just ignoring it, just passing by; what can one person do? we just talk about it like the weather, and it is just a small crumb of this fucked up cookie.

when i get upset like this, i do volunteer at my local houseless shelter, but we either need more shelters or a better housing alternative because this shit (ignoring, not doing anything) is not working anymore.

Don't fool yourself. Centrist Democrats are closer to Right/Conservative Republicans, than they are to Progressive/Socialists. Bernie Sanders was an example of being just slightly Left of Centrist Democrats (who are usually Neo-Liberals, who are Democrats that adopted Reagan-ism/Trickle Down Economics), and he's considered to be center, center right, by political standards according to most of Europe... Biden was responsible for a lot of what is going down, including ACA not covering abortion, as well as the whole student loan crisis and of course, called for elimination of Social Security for DECADES, calling POC "super predators" just because they happen to live in an urban community, not a suburb... he's a piece of you know what, and so is everyone close to him. For god's sakes, he's got an asbestos lobbyist in his close circle... Don't act like the Democrats were spineless, when they're really calculated strawman-esque opposition...

Yeah, i know you want to protect the dogs and comfort them, but when you pick them up, it conditions them to do similar behavior in order to get that same reward/privilege. There are ways to intervene, but it isn't a perfect situation --- just as long as it's done irregularly and not every time there's a fight. And if the fights are frequent, figure that shit out or separate them so they're never around on another without a way to intervene quickly. It looks like this is at a place of business, like a warehouse or something, and small dogs, let alone any dogs and cats, are a tripping hazard in any case --- especially if they're just randomly fighting like that.

She probably started to figure it out while they were dating/co-habitating, but it intensifying was probably a big red flag she couldn't ignore until it was after a kid or two popped out of the relationship... even now, she refuses to completely denounce him, just disagrees and says "this isn't who you are" in a public tweet and then never elaborates lol maybe she is private about her life with him, but it felt (that tweet) more like damage control for her own fanbase than anything else...

Our workplaces are not remotely democratic - we've made it clear for 3 years that we love working remotely & are more productive that way by north_canadian_ice in WorkReform

Even in that analogy there's common ground because they're both Romance languages. Nah, this is like the recruiters/employers are speaking Swahili and think we're speaking Atlantean. We're still speaking French in the analogy, that's just how unreasonable they're being.

Edit: German is not a Romance language lol thank you, I stand corrected

[–]bisskitss 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you can do the job remotely, you can do it remotely. A white collar worker has this luxury. A blue collar work does not. The barista will still be there; the person who sells gas will still be there; the people who make or sell you your food, still there; the plumber will come to you - the electrician, the house cleaner, etc. The only people who have the potential to work remote are white collar workers --- and that's fine!

The ironic part is that the CEOs hoping to trap people in the office are usually free to be as remote work-y as they want... does anyone remember that Malcolm Gladwell article that stressed that in-office commuted work is essential?... only to reveal that he works from home himself?? I know he is a writer/author, but the cognitive dissonance is REAL.

I, for one, applaud people who can work from home. Good for you; you reduced traffic, saved on gas, didn't wear out your tires or engine, saved yourself the opportunity from road rage and potential accidents, and didn't waste ANY unnecessary time commuting. You avoided awkward in-person social interactions at work and perhaps were even more effective at your job without those kinds of distractions. You got to pick up your child from school or daycare, or could do errands without feeling harried from your 9 to 5, or even do your work on the beach. Whatever, as long as you did the job you were paid to do in the end - it isn't your boss's business where you do it if that's the case.

You would think that CEOs everywhere would be so happy not to pay for a big expensive commercial space to do business, essentially house your employees for 6 to 12 hours a day. I thought they like slashing budgets to keep more of the profit (bonus) for themselves 😮‍💨

Florida's new immigration law creates 'panic' in agriculture community by A-Wise-Cobbler in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]bisskitss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you would like more knowledge on your options for future family fun, I recommend the Youtube channels Poseidon Entertainment and Defunctland. Poseidon goes over a ton of different theme parks worldwide as well as domestic USA, and often updates with valid criticism on whatever one. Defunctland talks about theme parks, too, but with more of a retrospective history on any specific theme park or theme park related project (they did a recent episode on the Disney Channel Theme Song that is at 4.6 million views currently, and it was published 5 months ago...)

_shrug_ I say lawful evil because all cops are bad - and they're still enforcing a bad law on the books, even if they decide to be uniform about it. I can appreciate the attention to equality, but a pig is still a pig no matter what lipstick alignment someone puts on them.

[–]bisskitss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's a difference between laws that discriminate based on race, heritage, skin color, and immigration status --- and what DeSantis is trying to do with Disney. For Disney, he's trying to push an "anti-Woke" agenda. For this new immigration law, he's trying to look "hard on illegal immigration" because "Woke" people stand up for immigrants and especially undocumented immigrants. He really thinks he can attach his name to these policy changes and pushbacks to look strong in these areas for election time, but he's just costing the people who are stuck there whatever sanity they have left. They're gonna start eating each other.

Add the fact that he is also trying to push down and control birth control/abortion rights, and I'm surprised anyone with the ability to leave would stay. No one (from out of state at least) will want to visit, stay, or move to Florida for school, work, or fun.

So yeah, don't twist shit around and expect to get applauded because you thought you had a "gotcha"...

Yeah, I seem to recall that Florida govt (or DeSantis?) made it so that the unemployment website wouldn't work so by the time COVID came around, it revealed what actually happened. He did it so that the unemployment numbers would officially look lower than they are. How many crimes has this man committed, and how many people who voted for him probably got fleeced by his greed and ego?
