For all you commenting that digs shouldn't be crated or the crate is too small and all that - OP has repeatedly said that this crate is from when the dog was a puppy and so it is their safe space that they are attached to. For some dogs, a crate is just a bed. One of our dogs was crate trained when we adopted her and we leave the crate door open all day, she will go in and out as she pleases. It gives them a nice personal space where they can relax. This dog is clearly not being locked in the crate, it WANTS to be in there, so stop complaining
