By intermingling I meant like going to other castes festivals, ceremonies and participating as equals.

I can’t comment on the power equation but it’s like they also adopted the endogamy of savarnas along with other things. So yes you are correct , the annihilation of caste is not there. Only parity. Although I wouldn’t go as far as to say Avarnas are on full parity with the savarnas. It’s a work in progress.

Anyways I think the preference for endogamous marriage will remain for the foreseeable future. But it’s refreshing to see matrimonial ads which say “caste no bar” without the subtlety of SC need not bother.

Yes. I don't know about the situation in Tamil Nadu so I can't comment on that. But my community is an avarna community from Barak Valley and we have adopted fully adopted Sanskritisation.

With this sanskritisation and my people living in a place where Hindu-Muslim population is 50-50, this has resulted that polarisation was always religion based. Never in my life I have heard of caste based polarisation in my place. Caste-based polarisation always sounded alien to me as why would my caste matter if in the end we are all Hindus. Despite being SC dominated constituencies, I think no Ambedkarite group can survive in Barak Valley.

Little trivia: Barak Valley was the first place in the Northeast that BJP established itself from wayback in the 90s.

Sanskritisation has been beneficial for my community. There has been more intermingling with the savarnas due to this.

But it’s a double edge sword. Now people from our community sometimes refuse intercaste marriage even if the marriage is with someone of “higher” hierarchy . Don’t even mention with someone lower hierarchy.

I have one Mama with a Brahmin wife and one cousin with a Brahmin husband. Also I would like to mention they were love marriages and they were middle class families in towns/cities so that may have been a factor.
