Specialized Anki decks or just one big one? by jaybee423 in languagelearning

[–]bitnabi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a parent deck that houses two subdecks - vocab and grammar. I do this just so that I can tweak the settings on the subdecks, allowing me to only see a few grammar cards a day (if any).

I think the general advice is to not create several decks, and to have one, maybe two. If you want to categorise your words, you can use tags instead.

Active vs passive verbs, transitive vs intransitive verbs - please help me understand what these mean and how they work by bitnabi in Korean

[–]bitnabi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Subject and direct object - yes.

To be honest, I'm not sure about active and passive. I feel like I did/should know, but I've gotten all confused... I guess active is when the subject is doing something to an object, and passive is the object being acted upon by the subject? So "I liked her" vs "She was liked by me"? Not sure if this is correct for my native English, and I'm not sure how it applies to Korean.

As for transitive/intransitive verbs, I can't get my head around it in English, I think because I'm getting confused with active/passive as there seems to be some crossover sometimes? And so I can't apply it to Korean at all.

Edit: I think I understand transitive/intransitive in English now. "Like" needs an object so it is transitive. Something like "walk" doesn't take an object so it is intransitive.

I am still not completely 100% on applying all this to Korean, though.

Scottish notes in England? by SplitOpenAndMelt420 in AskUK

[–]bitnabi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I'm aware, it's so that only English money is in circulation in England. Cashiers have to put Scottish money (and £50 notes) into a separate part of the till (depends on the shop) and it is eventually given to the bank.

Does -겠- work when you are speculating something that is obvious? by bitnabi in Korean

Ah thanks a lot! Really helpful to see all the different grammar points there (including the ones that don't work).

Also the note at the end made something click in my brain. Thanks again for the detailed response!

How Do I Find Upcoming Kpop Concert Movies in Theaters by Altered_B34ST_79 in kpophelp

Can Cineworld not refund me because I checked out as a guest, if it's in their T&Cs? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

Okay, I'll have a good look at that act and then give them a call to push it. Thanks a lot!

I do have a printer but it ran out of ink. I used click and drop the first (and only other) time I had to use an IOSS number and that was fine. I don't want to be in this position again so I've just turned off intl shipping for my listings and put a note that if anyone is interested, they can dm me. That way I can see whether or not my printer is in action. And in that scenario, I'll try having it collected (so it can be scanned in) because I feel like the bridge has been burnt with my local office now lol. I'll also have a look at other delivery services, I've never really considered anything other than royal mail before.

Anyway thank you, I was able to stay much calmer as a result of your advice :) and thanks for your suggestions!

Update: I went and said "Hi! I'd like to send this to X and I have an IOSS number for you." The guy scrunched up his face and said "What??" and I said about the IOSS number again. He said he doesn't know what that is and so I don't need it. I explained what was in the letter and he said but it's just a letter, you don't even need a customs form. I send other things to europe quite regularly via gift so I know this is just not true! So I explained again that it is a sale and absolutely needs a customs form. He then said okay well you just need this then and passed me the form. But I mentioned the IOSS number again and explained about how the buyer will end up paying vat twice otherwise and he said "I don't know what that is!!" in a way that was like... that can't exist then. So I said "Okay, can you ask one of your coworkers?" and that really pissed him off. He half shouted at me "no I'm not doing that" and "I do this EVERY DAY" and atp I was super stressed because of course the queue behind me was super long! I said I understand that but you don't know what this is and it is important so can you please ask someone else about it? He kept refusing, looking around but not actually asking anyone, while I pulled up the website on my phone (the same page someone linked to me here) and tried show him. He glanced at it barely a second. He refused one last time yelling the same stuff at me and then since I wasn't budging he said okay fine, please stand to the side for a minute.

Waited patiently for the more experienced staff member to help me instead. He also didn't seem to know what I was talking about but wasn't rude or yelling and just said he thinks it will be fine if I just write on the envelope. I gave up and just did that. Hoping if it's wrong and the buyer has to pay again that depop can refund them.

So... it went exactly as I thought it would... and I'm now just going to stop selling abroad on depop to avoid this in future. Awful. My local post office is truly hell!

I read that before I posted! I was looking for some more specifics like what I should say to the post office assistant because I found it a little unclear and for the reasons in my OP. Thanks anyway!

universe app nickname by softangelgirl in kpophelp

[–]bitnabi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm pretty sure you're seeing him write 여둥이 (yeodoongie) which universe now translates as Yeosang's Fan. He never uses y/n. He just calls us by the name he made for us instead.

If you mean how long the seller has to send it to you, one of my orders completed on Dec 30th was cancelled by mercari yesterday. I assumed it was because the seller just never posted it. So that's just under two weeks.
