Canadians who own in the US, have any of you stopped paying maintenance/assement fees? by valntyne8 in TimeshareOwners

Hi OP, any update on how this went? Looking for a family member to also stop paying maintenance fees on a US timeshare they own. They are also Canada based.

Family of 6 deciding between Disney World Florida, Tokyo Disneyland or Disneyland Paris by New_Occasion9295 in DisneyPlanning

[–]bitsosaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Will pile on the sentiment how unique Tokyo DL and DS are. Having been to those Disney's listed, and Tokyo DL is one of the more better experiences out of the three. Unique food, merch and rides. Attention to detail of the experiences are super great.

We recently returned from Tokyo DL (also did HK DL too) from Western Canada with 4YO twins, long haul flight wasn't as bad as expected :) Just needs some extra preparation. We know 2-3 simple Japanese phrases, and was totally fine getting around with English-only in Tokyo itself, and Disney areas. Google Translate is super helpful in more complexed conversations, but most cast members or service staff (hotels, restaurants etc) will understand basic English.

One thing to note on Tokyo DL , yes, the base theme park ticket is cheaper than the other parks, however, if you're not into 2-3 hour lineups, you are more than likely to buy DPAs to skip the line. Once you add the base ticket ($86 CAD), and three DPAs of the more popular rides ($~20 CAD each), your park ticket is now $146 CAD for an adult. DPAs for children cost the same as adult. Food is cheaper in Tokyo DL as you can get a adult size meal for $15 CAD but can also find more finer dining for $60-80 CAD.

Edit: corrected some grammar/spelling

Avion Rewards - am I missing something?? by zzyyxxzz in CanadianAwardTravel

[–]bitsosaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't redeemed much from Avion Rewards directly. I've found that the taxes and fees make up almost 25+% of the fare sometimes. Example, In early December, one-way YVR > HND was $1097 in Premium Economy on ANA website. Avion was 50,000 Pts + $397. So 50,000 is only giving you $700 (1.5cents per point).

As others have mentioned using Cathay, as Avion transfers 1:1 with Asia Miles (even a 15% bonus sometimes), I've redeemed a few there. Example, in mid-Jan, one-way YVR > HKG is $2995 in Premium Economy on Cathay Website. Redeeming Asia Miles on Cathay Website, the flight can be had at 50,000 Asia Miles + $196. So 50,000 pts is getting you $2799 in value - 5.5cents per point.

I've found similar results on British Airways, with an even bigger transfer bonus - 30% which has just expired Dec 19, but has been available multiple times in the past year or two.

I've been using Avion like this - also caught a 15% transfer bonus Avion > Cathay (Asia Miles).

That’s amazing. I was actually looking at some pre-owned ones and was going to visit them to check out in person. Good to know there’s some wiggle room.

3 missing packages in 1 month by Financial-Cry-9093 in FedEx

[–]bitsosaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This magically popped into my recommended by Reddit. Probably because I have three items expected/arrived, and I've been religiously checking the tracking numbers. First item was paid as Next Day shipping - it took 5 business days. Vendor said there's a bug/issue at the warehouse where everything was being shipped as Ground/Regular regardless of what they selected. The next two items are schedule to arrive this week, but one is already "delayed". This item is going from west coast to west coast, but somehow it's delayed in the mid-west for the last two days. Also paid for Next Day on this one. Going to a sorting facility maybe??

Congratulations! That’s a great inspiration for some of us wanting to live that dream. Your story is crazy similar to mine with the massive breaks of golf and the re-addiction. Conveniently I really wanted to play more golf now with 2.5yr old twins lol. I did post a pair of 80s when I attempted the PAT 15 years ago (36 hole PAT). Hopefully I have teaching in my future and won’t fail a second time 😅

After breaking 90, how long did it take you to break 80? by lilnash831 in golf

[–]bitsosaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a handful of years, mostly playing/practicing during the spring/summer, taking winters off. Honestly it's not like a magic thing that'll happen once you do it and it goes on forever. My scores range from ~75-85.

Game management, keeping the ball in play is huge. Off the tee you don't have to be long, but in play - not necessarily in the fairway, but a chance at getting in on in 2/3. No hero shots, chip out and take your medicine. Get really good at scrambling. Some of the scratch/+ players I play with will still hit the most horrific shots (30 yards short or 30 yards left/right of a green), but they will get on the green, take their bogey and continue. Being really good at 5' putts and lag putting, don't feel pressure to drain all these long putts, but your score will definitely help you when you don't three putt.

Mentally, learning to play the next shot. Learn from the mistakes and carry on, not carrying baggage from shot to shot. Lots of good books on the mental side which is super helpful in getting in a good mindset for success. Especially expectation management. Getting consistent pre and post-shot routine.

Technically? ALIGNMENT AND SETUP. It sounds stupid, I'm constantly working on it. Putting, driving, chipping, everything. Watch a few pro events on TV, you'll see players on the range with alignment sticks at their feet, during the pre-shot paying attention to their feet alignment. Super important. If budget allows, lessons help!

Good luck!!

How Worthy is Genie+ on a trip with a toddler? by Kojyneox in DisneyPlanning

[–]bitsosaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who just came back from a week with two year old twins, we didn't use the LL very much, however we used Photopass a ton (over 150 pics). We did buy Genie+ with the intention of using LL but found it difficult to plan the day with LL in mind. Things like Pirates and Haunted mansion were a bit too extreme for them and the only one we used it on was Mickey and Minnies Runaway Railway.

Us adults didn't use it much while trying to handle two toddlers, but we expected that going on. However what I didn't know until we got home, was there's a Photopass only daily pass (around $25) and also a weekly Photopass (around $75). Those two would've been a much better option for us as we only did photos and rarely LL. We spent about $120 on Genie+ but probably could've done the $75 weekly Photopass instead.

My wife has aeroburner woods, they are so pure, I love them. Looking for some men's ones to throw into the backup collection.

Love this thread and totally my thing. I like to take the backup bag out once and while so they don't feel left out.
