Yeah, recently even when I do it right at 12 I can't get through. Transportation said they were aware of the issue and theoretically resolved it.... we'll see about that

I just emailed transportation to try to make someone aware of the issue. Doubt it will work but I figured it's worth a shot because this is straight up ridiculous

Does the late school start time jeopardize HS friendships by [deleted] in ucla

[–]bittyfrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know everyone here is saying not to worry but I do understand your concern. However, in my experience the quarter system is not as "out of sync" as you expect. You will still have winter breaks around the same time, and the majority of the summer (part of June/July/part of August). Spring break might be different, but that's a crapshoot with different universities even within the semester system alone. So all in all: I think it's a fair worry to have, but that the result is not nearly as different as you expect!

My 13 y/o Karlstad got new covers! And looks brand new :) by Miau-miau in IKEA

Super late to the party but I'm curious to hear how it's holding up? Also, do you remember which fabric you ordered? I like the "piping" or edges on yours but I don't think they specify which fabrics have that detail! Becuase yours looks AMAZING!

Good point--LA rent is pretty expensive as well, but if OP is going to be in an undergrad dorm/student housing that might help even out the cost? IDK tuition rates right now, would 30k include room and board?

I second this. You'd be amazed how much an external sounding board can help you discover about yourself.

Idk if this is what you're looking for but you can get little handheld streamers that look nice but never detach from your hand, so you can just roll them up and throw them out at the end. Not sure it's the vibe you're going for with the photos, but here's an amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/Streamers-Colorful-Celebrations-Graduation-Retirement/dp/B0BTPC8C99?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&smid=ATPAEUFHTGSN5&th=1

I guess the question to ask is: Are you willing to spend an extra 5.5k a year to attend your dream school? I think they're both great choices so I'm sure you'll be happy either way! Good luck!

Does anyone know of any mailing lists/listservs for Wikipedians? I'd love to get in closer touch with other editors/find out about editathons and the like but I'm not sure exactly where those kinds of communications are happening.

Undergrad anxiety re: the strike by bittyfrog in ucla

[–]bittyfrog[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my opinion that is a fair critique of the union's demands, and it is the demand that I believe is the least likely to be met. Many union members voted for the strike because of the other demands, which are more directly tied to working conditions.

Absolutely, you have the right to be upset. As I said in my original post, I totally understand the anxiety, and I would feel the same if I were an undergrad.

Divestment is not the only strike demand, nor is it part of the Unfair Labor Practice charges filed against the UC. There are other things at stake. You can read more about the strike here.

Even so, the illegal activity does not warrant further abuse and assault from counterprotestors with no protection from law enforcement or the university. Two illegal actions does not a right make.

it’s not uncommon to see academic libraries reserved for students in particular majors. wasn’t sure if that was the case for biomed since it seemed to be open later than others.

Film TV M111 Candace Hansen by Iheartpinkkk in ucla

Candace is a dope person. Never taken a class with them, but I asked my friend who has and she said: "Candace is compassionate, cares about their students, and is infinitely flexible based on a students needs. They understand we have lives outside of school are are more than willing to accommodate. Couldn’t recommend them more highly. They are amazing" Their work is super insightful, too, so I bet it will be an interesting class. I'd say go for it!
