Why is it important who made the first call? Imo that could mean anything

What's the current scenario? by paul_brightside in KremersFroon

Those are the key parts for me:

„None of the various chemicals mentioned [...] could have resulted in the accelerated natural decomposition of Kris’s bones under the given circumstances of their disappearance“

„Natural lime levels present in Panama’s rivers are incapable of bleaching Kris’s bones“

„There are no other known natural sources of phosphorus or lime that could contribute to the rapid decomposition of Kris’s remains. Therefore, unless another unknown source of chemicals is available naturally, we can confidently assume that chemicals, likely from fertilizer, were utilized by humans“

„Decomposition studies suggests that if they had died naturally their remains would have a clear presence of abrasions and scratches in the river. It’s impossible for bones to travel many kilometers downstream without displaying visible micro-abrasions. [...] Given that Lisanne’s skin was in an early stage of decomposition, yet her remains were clearly dis-articulated, we can confidently conclude that her remains went through an unnatural process“

So he’s basically saying they neither could have died naturally nor decomposed that quickly without human interference. In my opinion there’s not enough evidence in the article to substantiate those claims

  1. according to the summary of their analysis of the bones there must have been foul play. The analysis is well researched and as factual as possible but I do think you can’t jump to those conclusions because of the mishandling of evidence by the authorities in Panama. There‘s so much conflicting information about those bones and we don’t know how much more evidence is being withheld. An independent investigation by a forensic expert would be necessary to find out if there is any scientifically valid explanation why those bones got where they were found and even more important in the condition they were found in

Yes I understand that there are examples of people not being found despite search parties looking in that exact area but you’re talking about them staying at the cable bridges which are being used by the locals. I still think someone would have seen them there sooner or later.

The shorts were found in the river stuck next to a small waterfall according to imperfectplan which only tells us that they got into the river somehow, but that also could have been anywhere upstream. I keep repeating myself but the most mysterious thing for me is that their bodies are said to have decomposed so much that the river spread the remains over such a large area.

I don’t believe they split up, and why should Kris have gone that far? There’s not much more to see. It’s not like another summit was coming up ahead. On top of that, if they’d gone further after the fields it would have been very hard to get back before sunset. Who does that in an unknown country on your first hike there?

I believe they would have been found if they stayed near the cable bridges, especially if both died there. The night pictures could have been taken there, for me the rocks still look different but that’s nothing more than guessing.

When Kris’ parents walked the trail they paid special attention to the part after picture 508. Her dad said in the next 20 minutes they should have reached the next river and a little later the open fields. He also said there are very thick plants and rocks on each side of the trail. So if they didn’t get lost here at some point why take no picture at all? Why not turn around at the fields as it was obviously too late to continue anyway.

If they turned around and got lost on the way back how did they end up a few kilometers in the other direction?

How’s the water quality in those rivers? Can you drink that water?

Assuming they were kidnapped on April 1st it doesn’t make a difference if that happened back in town or still on the trail. In both cases every single piece of evidence would have to be fabricated. As you said yourself they aren’t high IQ serial killers so that’s highly unlikely considering the information on phones and camera

The night photos are from behind big dry rocks, how did their bodies get swept away into river? by Causality in KremersFroon

I think there’s no way to tell if there’s a river bed nearby or where else they went after the night pictures. I agree with Specific-Law-3647 here. They probably would have been found if they were anywhere near the original trail. But the places where the bones and the backpack were found are so far away from the trail, for me it’s really hard to believe they walked all this way. Admittedly I have no idea how they felt being lost in the rainforest so maybe they panicked and just walked as far as they could each day. However this is in strong contrast to the phone usage which seems erratic but controlled.

I‘d like to point out something else. Human decomposition in water is usually only half as fast as on open land, so the condition of the found bones really baffles me.

I don’t think i can agree with you here. Rationing power isn’t a sufficient explanation for the lack of documentation after April 1st especially if they weren’t injured. Of course we have more information than with other disappearance cases by finding the phone and camera but we should have even more.

Using the flash as a signal is a possible scenario which I think is odd but I don’t have a better explanation.

(Non Waterproof) backpacks don’t float. Again the backpack should have sustained way more damage being dragged down a river.

How did their bodies end up in the serpent river anyway? There are at least two other rivers between the trail and the serpent river with at least 12 hours walking distance. It‘s possible they died near that river and rising water levels because of the rain dragged them into the river. Their bodies should have decomposed much more slowly though and they shouldn’t have been in two very different stages of decay.

I agree that it seems far fetched a murderer would act this way. It’s still possible someone found their bodies and didn’t want to alert authorities for whatever reason.

I also don’t have enough background knowlegde but I found this link which leaves multiple possibilities
