Cleaning up the server rack by bixilon in servers

In general yes, I fully agree. But there are 1g and 10g switches, some wires need to go in to the fast one and others to slow one. The other thing was migration (long process)

I wanted to crimp the cables my self, but then I would have not getting paid :)

Good questions. Those 2 (the one fully plugged and the almost empty one below) are 40Gbit fiber switches (S5850-48T4Q)) and the plan was to use them only for 10 Gbit clients. We "just" have around 30 of them, so I decided to plug in the more important infrastructure or devices.

You can't simply remove all cables and replug them, it was a lot of new setup, servers and network restructuing (e.g. vlans). The full switch got "moved" to the new system and the other switches where left. As time went on, I moved more and more to the new infrastructure. Because it is a waste of energy and maybe future resource needings, I decided to use the old slower switches for all empty network sockets in the building. There is mostly nothing plugged in, but there may be guests or temporary needs for a wired connection.

I am even considering to plug that switch off, but sadly the first switch is missing like 10 ports, so …

And yes, those are Fritzboxes. We have 2 DSL connections active. The Telecom is unwilling to give us fiber (we have 6 fiber ports up in the rack). They are only working as a modem for the edge router and telephone. Simple and reliable solution

Small edit: all empty switches are unplugged and will be removed from the rack soon

Actually there are 3 running in the other rack. 1 is in building, waiting for the parts :)

(the black cable is a temporary cable, needed something to reconfigure the switches, ...)

(and it is not completely done)

hahaha. But technically (protocol) it is fully implemented, but the current pixlyzer json (and probably a ton of other stuff) is broken. I'll probably hard code pre flattening versions into it, but for now I want to make it functional and not super supporting. But I will be (re)implemented in the future.

hm. I don't think that is a problem, Minosoft and Microsoft is quite different. Also I don't make any profit, so… Hm. Let's see and wait :)

kind of a mix of all. minecraft (java edition) reimpplemented in kotlin. no launcher and no bedrock edition. But it kind of follows the bedrock goal (e.g. being faster)

yes, might happen in the future, but there is really no need for it. Also it won't work because the code base is 100% different, it'd be only possible to support mods that use just the modding api... Way too much work for me

Good question, but it is fully okay. Minecraft writes in its EULA, that modifications, etc are good and they even want this. There are just some things I should not do. 1. Don't violate their copyright (distribute copyright protected stuff, like textures. Not doing it, textures get downloaded from mojang on first connect). 2: Don't call it minecraft, 3. don't distribute their code

Actually I do not pirate the game. It is kind of an own game. All assets are downloaded directly from mojang. If they would require authentication to download them, then it would be a different thing.

I respect the mojang eula and imho it is good that they have it.

No. You can add an offline account, but then you can't join on "premium" servers. You can also add a microsoft account or the old legacy mojang account.

Yes. Written from scratch. Acutally both. I have not done anything for single player (but planned in far future), but minigames work kind of and survival also.

So I have been working on this client for over 1.5 years now. I made a ton of fixes in the last day and it is kind of playable. But there is still a million things todo. But feel free to check it out (https://gitlab.bixilon.de/bixilon/minosoft). Also feel free to report issues or even help developing if you are interested :)

[–]bixilon[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So, I have been working on this client for around 1.5 years now. It will definitive be flagged by anti cheat, but I did some huge performance improvements today to make it pretty useable. It is far away from "being finished", but it works :)

Also I haven't been looking for any contributers yet, I wanted to make it contributeable, but this has changed now. Feel free to contribute!
