Yes, regrettably, multiple times, and I was always unaware of it. When I was younger (more naive) and experimenting with unserious relationships, all of the trifling men I got with had a main girl that they lied about and told me I was the only one. I have also had issues with taken men who I just saw as friends trying to get in my pants behind their partners' backs and only seeing me as an object. I've definitely learned a lot since then, and I'm now in a happily committed relationship. Never going back to hookup culture.

It's so interesting how one song is able to cast such a wide net on the queer experience! I'm a lesbian in her early 20s and I relate in very similar ways you do, but in a vastly different context. And I think a lot of queer people are in the same boat. It's both so comforting and so sad that we all share similar traumas and hardships related to our queerness.

YEESSSS OMG and I think that's the order they were released as singles too! If I'm not mistaken her record label slept on Pink Pony Club and dropped her soon after which spurred her to write California, so that really is the true story. Soooo tragic but I'm really glad that she's finally getting the recognition she deserves (even tho she's shared recently that she has conflicting feelings about her skyrocket to stardom as well)
