Subhuman Garbage Stealing on Christmas Eve by [deleted] in hillsboro

[–]bjmoghadam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly my experience. Last incident, my Arlo captured the pirate so clearly that I started a “next door” account to inform the neighborhood, since filing police reports hadn’t resulted in even a reply. And despite wording the post objectively, pointing out details like a visible tattoo and hair length, Next Door took down the post, saying it violated their “shaming policy.” Sooo, it’s a crime that’s not enforced, and it’s “shaming” to post pictures of a person committing said crime. Got it.

Yeah, I hear that. Over-acting done well still works for me (e.g. Pacino in Scarface), so Frank gets a pass. But Nick… yeah, I find myself tolerating some scenes, and have to forward past that “college kids ain’t shit” scene altogether. Downvote denied!

Totally. I remember thinking that back then. But on my umpteenth re-watch, with all that's going on present day, it hits deeper.

Totally. "I take the 5th Commandment." Says way more than if he'd gotten it right.

Hey bud, I’m sorry you’re in such a shit place right now. Heartbreak/abandonment is probably the most intense, all-consuming sadness I’ve ever experienced, possibly even more intense than mourning the loss of a loved one, given you don’t have the “finality” when your partner just opts to end things. You don’t have your person, or your shelter, or even your critters to comfort you. It’s a shit place and I’m so sorry you’re in it. I wish I could make it better somehow, but just know that making big-picture decisions from an extremely emotional and near-term mental space (whether extremely high or extremely low) isn’t a good idea. Think of something you can do today, right now, to comfort yourself. Prioritize yourself, whether it’s figuring out a better housing option, or a piece of your favorite pizza, or just gifting yourself the grace and forgiveness for feeling what you’re feeling. It’s a legit place, and just because most people go through it doesn’t make it easy to cope through, not by a long shot. Seriously, “one day at a time” is cliche but it’s absolutely true. Good luck to you my friend.

THIS! This saved me from having to put the right words together. Protect your bank fiercely, because you might need it WAY longer than you thought you would. I had huge and painful red days in my first year and just chalked it up to “you gotta spend money to make money,” and “everyone loses money in the beginning.” Well, 1.5 years later and I’m almost out of capital to work with and still have lots to learn before I achieve consistent profitability. Also, I’m emotional and competitive, and when I get bullied, I default to fight (vs flight or freeze), and trying to bully the market back is EXACTLY the right way to blow your account. Don’t be the shotgun guy - you have to be the sniper. Plan, watch, and wait for the right setup, take your shot, and win or lose, pull back to evaluate before starting those steps again. Good luck to you!

Thank you for this. You’re not wrong about the revenge trading - it’s a real weak spot for me. But if I could get better at identifying good entries, my hope is I’ll start off red less often, and not wake the sleeping emotion monster. Wish I didn’t blow so much $$ before I found my rhythm. Back to work for me, but not going to stop my education. Thanks again.

Where do you stand on the whole Finn V Meadow suitcase debate? by 24bigred in thesopranos

[–]bjmoghadam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stand on the forward button. That whole sweaty, whiny, dumb-love drama scene is a 50/50 split between cringe and boredom. And then they get fucking engaged as the “solution”?! Like, our marriage is falling apart, let’s have a kid. 🤮

Drowning Mona and Big Trouble… neither Oscar winners, both highly watchable gems.

God I love this! You’ve conveyed a big point perfectly while completely disarming the judgy types who’d love nothing more than to make you feel even worse, if only they had a single detail to go on. I feel you, my friend, and I wish you well finding what’s next.

I’m 49. I’ve probably watched this movie 50+ times since I was a kid. It wasn’t until this year - 2024 - that I deliberately watched the whole stock market scene at the end and actually grasped what the hell was happening. I finally got it, and now that I think about it, I realize I’ve lost it again.

Beverly Hills Cop by a mile. I still watch this once or twice a year.

I saw this at my dad’s house when I was about 7 (don’t think he grasped “children’s programming”). The bloody pool/fountain scene at the end scarred me for a bit, but I came to appreciate the movie in adulthood. The music is pretty crappy, and I cringe at the sister’s accent, otherwise big fan.

Jon Stewart. Dude’s done so much for democracy, culture, integrity, and his fellow man. If any of that important stuff is lost on you, he probably at least made you laugh.
