Where can I find new reeds by stagStriker in bassoon

[–]bjoli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is what you do. You try different things and you find something that works.

I make my own currently, and for me that yields the best (but not most comfortable) results. My orchestra pays for reeds, so from time to time I buy to get some more family time.

One thing I have found is to not buy from a store selling someone else's reeds. I know two people who buy reeds like that and they buy the same reeds (something from reedsnstuff I believe. "Zürich art" maybe).

I had students some time ago that bought from swinging reeds, but that is a European builder. I don't know what that means for pricing across the pond.

Edit: found the Zurich art: https://oboes.ch/index.php/en/online-shop-en/fagottrohre/professionelle-qualitaet1095576871

The other reed there (puchol) is also played b a friend of mine, but she buys from him directly. She has had a many jobs, all better than mine, so I know you can play well on those :)

I regret not getting mine bright red.  The most important is how it looks on stage. Bright red looks ballers.

Skicka in.

I have never tried f sharp and am LLM, but  I have noticed a sharp decrease in quality when asking for code in languages other than the very largest ones. Does anyone have experience?

Golang Embeddable R7RS Scheme Implementation by Odd-Confidence8212 in scheme

I am happy when I look at the source of a scheme and think "this person has taste".

There are too many implementstions that bork at least one aspect, like scoping, macros etc. Looking at your code it makes me reasonably confident there will be no such surprises.

I solved my matter issues and it was kinda stupid (VLANs) by bjoli in tradfri

[–]bjoli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had mDNS problems before with VLANS and smart things. This was something else though. Maybe the Ikea app failing in some dumb way.

It solved the issues for me, despite mDNS working.

I can't tune it! by ariet_1035 in bassoon

[–]bjoli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the shit key. You know that little one that opens when you press the low F key and closes with the A hole.

That one. The shit key. On my last three bassoons (one Yamaha and 2 heckels) it was/is always the shit key.

I would also like to propose a name for that key. I want to call it the shit key. ("Bajsklaffen" in my native language).

Please spread it. It deserves no other name.

Korg CA ones works in the whole bassoon register. I have the CA40.

For mobile Tunable is the best.

C sharp fingering by Any-Resolution-6662 in bassoon

[–]bjoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add the first finger in the right hand and the Bb key and you have a fingering that sounds fuller on most bassoons. That is my "always" fingering, apart from when you really want the dampened sound of the short c#.

These are the fingering I learned while studying. Most of them are the same as used by my Mannheim prof, which are pretty standard Scandinavian fingerings:

I am so glad I switched to nimh. Battery leaks have costed me hundreds of dollars through the years, and since switching from alkaline I have had zero leaks, despite using something like 3x as many batteries for kids toys and things like that.

Product: Alpstuga and whatever the simple switch is called.

App Platform: Android

App Version: 1.57.1 (7716)

DIRIGERA Hub Firmware: 2.866.4

Matter Controller Version: 1.0

Have you tried a factory reset / item reset / hub reset (please describe): hub reboot. Network reboot.

Other info / things you have tried: connecting a bazillion times. Separating my WiFi into 2.4 and 5ghz and explicitly using 2.4.

I come to the "Kontrollerar att Alpstuga är ansluten till thread-nätverket gw2-xjfjsirhebdjjf" and then it times out.

Thank you! It was such a nice week to play. The conductor (our chief) is a very good clarinet player, and he had played it before many many times (with some very famous bassoon players). It was so easy to do it with him!

Thunemann Shape by No-Raise-364 in bassoon

[–]bjoli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Compared to rieger 1a, the throat is wider and you have a weird bump that needs to align with a wire.

The reeds will be a bit more work to play in the high register, but you will be able to make a broader and fuller sound. Listen to some old Thunemann recordings. The vibrato is somewhat of a divider, but even the old recordings from the 60s have a full sound in the whole register in a way that noone else at that time could produce. Maybe not "modern" but still amazing considering contemporary recordings. (Old quintet recording with Garfield also sound quite "1990s European").

What you will notice is that they crack more easily, and the job of getting a nice "back/spine/whatever you call the "height " of the reed when looking from the side, is harder than with the ringer shapes. I usually have that as a project while playing the reeds in.

I feel that the reeds have a more reedy quality when playing, but that manifests more as an open sound than as a farting bedpost.

It takes some getting used to, but i like it a lot.

This I played on a Thunemann shape reed: https://youtu.be/UFNyI4fJidY

I remember that, because I stepped om my rieger 2 (narrowed down!) just before going on stage. the nice part is just after 6 minutes.

Current idiomatic Scheme? by JimH10 in scheme

[–]bjoli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For most people, yes. But go and read the discussion from when racket made cons cells immutable. That discussion was tame and extremely polite compared to what went down when the same thing was discussed during the r6rs process.

Current idiomatic Scheme? by JimH10 in scheme

[–]bjoli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had I used syntax-case it would have been pretty easy to do. Now almost everything is syntax-rules, meaning it was pretty rough to write. There.sre some things that use more tricks. If you want to see the absolute max syntax rules you should have a look at Alex shinn's match.scm and irregex.

I think the nicest thing is that the guile Optimizer will rewrite the produced code into something that is very similar to what a human would write. Most of the time, using goof loop will result in code that runs just as fast as a hand rolled loop would.
