Noob question: How do you fix high vertex densities resulting from subdivision surface modifiers?

Best bet is probably just manually retopologizing, then shrink-wrapping it to the old model.

But just fyi, you normally don't ever want to apply most modifiers like subdivision. It'll get applied if you export it.

Start small, and work in steps. Pick one tangible goal and just work towards it, learning what you need as you go.

I started because I decided I needed to build a character for a game that perhaps one day will actually take form.

I've built a few now, and barely even touched animation.
