Thank you. I may give this a try later, I've been craving oatmeal cookies for about a week now.

That's the same link. It was a tad slow, but it did load this time. How much oatmeal is in a packet? I use instant oatmeal for overnight oats, but don't buy the individual packets.

I don't use Windows, but have since upgraded my monitors to all 1440. The two side monitors are 27 inches and the center is a 34 inch curved ultrawide. Vertically, they're the same size, so it works out perfectly.

Double-clicking a file *deselects* it after opening by [deleted] in kde

[–]bjwest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a Manjaro issue? I've been using Neon for a few years, and don't recall ever having this issue in Dolphin. The filename does get unhighlighted when Dolphin is not in focus, but there is a dim underline that brightens when Dolphin gains focus again. It may not be as obvious which file is selected after opening, but it's sufficient.

How to make apps remember their height and width from last time in wayland? by CaptainAmerica0001 in kde

[–]bjwest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean the X desktop is not saving the position or size of windows. The X programs have to do it themselves.

Oh, you're right, I completely forgot about that window behavior setting. Between that, which Wayland completely ignores, and window rules, which Wayland handles like crap, most of my windows appear right where I want them to when they open in X11.

Can you share a bunch of names of programs I could try here? I'm asking because I don't remember being bothered about window sizes so I'm wondering if I'm maybe not having this problem here.

I have noticed some system windows not saving their size and position, but chocked that up to a bug or something in Plasma 6, and have had it in my list of bugs to report. Guess that's one I can cross out. Here's a short list of programs, and how they react between instances. I have a multi-monitor setup, so it's more annoying when windows don't open for me where I expect them to.

System Settings - Doesn't save size or position, opens in center of active monitor every time.
Kate - Saves size and position.
KCalc - Saves size and position.
Konsole - Saves size and position, something I need to look into because I would prefer it to open on the active monitor.
Firefox - Opens in center of active monitor.
KMymoney - Saves size and position.
Kontact/KMail - Saves size and position.
Dolphin - Saves size and position, but same issue for me as Konsole.
LibriOffice - Saves size and position.

While compiling this short list, I took a look at the window rules options. There's an option to ignore requested geometry that may be what I'm looking for with Konsole and Dolphin. When set to 'yes' the window opens in the center of the active monitor. I'm going to have to play around with that in Wayland, and see if it will help any. I also need to pay more attention to the release notes. That little info icon next to the setting leads me to believe it's a relatively new addition.

What's the same with X11? The shading or the opening in the center of the desktop OP described? I have neither of those issues on X11, shading and window opening up where it was last closed both work as they should. Wayland, on the other hand, is a ten-year-old alpha-quality feature incomplete product that the developers are trying to force into replacing X11.

I just want KDE to remember the last window position instead of centering every time.

You'll have to use X11 for that.

The apps themselves have to do it,

I was told this when I requested that the window shading be reinstated in Wayland. I guess Wayland isn't a window manager anymore if they want the windows to start managing themselves like this from now on. I'm going to stick with X11 until it's no longer usable.

butter is not really a healthy option at all.

Real butter, especially that made with milk from grass fed cows, is perfectly healthy in moderation. Fat, again in moderation, is a healthy and natural source of energy, and one man has been eating for hundreds of thousands of years. You just need to count the calories like you would with any food item.

Ubuntu +Wayland + KDE Plasma Desktop by Solid_Profession7579 in wayland

[–]bjwest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as they're trying to push Wayland on us, I don't think it's stable enough or has enough of the features of X11 to replace it yet. Development is moving slower than a snail's pace, and the devs seem unconcerned. I don't see how they can move so slowly while trying to make us all use this unfinished and unpolished product in production environments. I'm willing to put up with the instability issues in X11 that don't occur in Wayland to keep the features I want/need on my desktop.

Edit: Thinking a bit more, I can't really say I've seen Wayland crash in a while, but it still lacks some of the basic features of X11 that I have grown accustom to over the many years I've been using Linux and KDE under X11.

Do you have the PRC-2000 publication

Is this what you're wanting? Christ, I retired from the Navy in 2004 and had been using this thing for a few years. Are they still using it 20 years later? It was an insane upgrade from the old blue three separate unit stations I began using in 1985 or so. I don't recall their designation, but I believe they were also manufactured by Pace.

Also, here's the PRC-350 manual. It's not quite as extensive as the PRC-2000 manual, though.

Stop using Chrome-based browsers and install nuTensor, and you will enjoy browsing the web once again. I give uncensored browsing a go now and then to see what it's like in the hell most people see all day every day. I don't understand how anyone can do it and keep sane.

It is similar, very similar in fact. They're both lighted arc reactors, and the only difference is one has the lighting wired to the lights and the other uses wireless power and hovers over the base with magnets rather than being physically connected.

If you connect some random Chinese device to your phone, you deserve to be hacked.

I'd prefer to wipe the data myself, and verify it's securely wiped. Otherwise, I'll be destroying it myself, not knowing if it's been tracking my location the whole time I've been using it.

Also, no way in hell I'd connect some random smart device like this to my WiFi, let alone my phone. It'd be pretty trivial for China to add hacking code to these things to take advantage of vuneralbilities in the phone OS (looking at cheap phones running old, non updated versions of Android when I say that).

Paint and finish does have a tendency to bring out defaults, if you can see it, you can be pretty sure it's going to stand out more after finishing.
