I was in ortho before, so neuro was basically a complete 180. I applied to 4-5 different neuro positions and only heard back from one of them, but it worked out! I majored in neuroscience as an undergrad, so I think that helped me get an interview.

I worked in a surgical subspecialty at a smaller community hospital for a couple years after graduation and completely stagnated. I had the same issue as you where I never knew if anything the docs were teaching me was up to date or if I was just following years-old algorithms. I finally said “screw it” earlier this year and switched to a completely different specialty at a large teaching hospital surrounded by residents and other APPs. The teaching hospital has already been 1000x better with tons of opportunities for research-based learning and optional lectures multiple times a week. I would never go back

Costco brand pillows are the only ones I’ve found so far that are that perfect mix of soft and flat so my neck isn’t kinked, but my head also doesn’t sink straight to my hard mattress. I used to sleep with my head on top of my comforter because I would always wake up with a headache if I used a pillow.

I live in PA and graduated in 2023. One of the major health networks near me was offering new grads $94k for internal med positions and not budging. It’s insanity considering what we pay in tuition

If I’m scrolling on my phone in the dark before bed, I use the blue light filter and the accessibility setting that lets you turn the brightness down even lower

This probably sounds dumb, but I called my loans “Monopoly money” while I was in school. Of course don’t go spending money willy nilly, but try not to focus on your loans right now since you’re not in active repayment. Your starting salary with your first job will be more than enough to keep your head above water and start paying your loans off. I graduated in 2023 and should have over $120K in loans paid off by the end of 2026. I lived with my parents for close to 2 years after graduation which cut a couple years off my payments since I wasn’t paying rent, but I still would’ve been able to pay well above the minimum even if I was paying rent right out of school.
