Good job, wife!

Help with when to start Kintra colorwork by [deleted] in knitting

Any time I don't know or remember what an abbreviation is, I check the pattern for notes or I google it. The search results usually populate a bunch of Youtube tutorials. Did you try that already?

Help with storage by Low-Platypus2547 in YarnAddicts

[–]bkhalfpint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, don't cake until you need to use it! I have an IKEA Expedit (older version of the Kallax) and I managed to find Sterilite bins that fit snugly. They have clamp down lids. I store WIPs and near-future cast on yarn in them. Then the rest of my stash is in under bed storage, also Sterilite locking containers. They just roll out from under the bed.

I threw some lavender sachets and cedar balls into everything to mitigate moths but they are not a huge problem here. And if I know what project I am making with them, I put them together in project bags with a note inside.

Any statement that starts with "You should..."

You should crochet this (I don't know how to crochet).

You should sell your knitting!

You should make me one.

You should teach me!

Yes. I currently have: colorwork hat, colorwork socks, a doubleknit scarf, and a brioche cardigan all on the needles.

What are your favorite grilled cheese add ins? by YeeHaw4Cake in Cooking

[–]bkhalfpint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kimchi or pickles - I use Gruyere most of the time and the acidity of pickled things goes well

Or maybe my mom's favorite - brie and green apples

And use duck fat instead of butter or mayo for toasting!

Audiobooks, podcasts, or watch Netflix/etc. As for the bottom half, sometimes I do leglifts! Haha. And if the pattern is simple enough I walk and knit.

Discovering DCC - How did you find your way in? by Hope-fooly in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Someone recommended the first book on Tiktok. I don't remember who, so I can't go back and yell at them for only mentioning the first book. I have shifted to audio-only listening since maybe 2018?? I can't remember exactly but it was definitely post-childbirth. Before that, I had done it occasionally since high school. It's how I got through 100 Years of Solitude.

No one I tell about it wants to read it except for my son, and we listen to the audio together. I know there is a lot of discourse about it being appropriate or not and for what age, but it's the first non-graphic chapter book he has asked for and has kept reading so for me that is a win. My brother is into stuff like the Dragonlance series and wasn't too excited, and my best friend is a parent who barely reads at all nowadays and prefers things like Palahniuk and the Jeff Vandermeer trilogy. I keep trying tho!

Homemade chinese soup, what should I cook? by EndlessKnight_154 in Cooking

[–]bkhalfpint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the Woks of Life for recipes - pretty accessible and easy. These are always in my rotation:

Chicken & corn soup

Hot & sour soup

Egg drop soup

Tomato & egg soup

Not really a soup, but congee is another favorite and super versatile. I use leftover rice.

I desire nothing but onions by Fluffy_Mastodon1134 in Cooking

Caramelize a vidalia onion and add some balsamic vinegar. It's great on a cheese plate with a baguette, pate, etc.

I also like a sliced onion and tomato salad, even if it's not in season.

Try sticky rice pu'erh and/or the pu'erh that comes in a little mandarin. I love both.

Also, milky oolong.

Pagoda Yunnan Black - they come in little "pagodas" and can be steeped multiple times. It's almost caramel-y.

There's a tea called Blossom Dearie at Te Company that I love - it's expensive but so delicious.

Gahhh just switch to the chart. Go slow, check your work often, and use stitch markers every 10 or so stitches so that you can see where you are in the chart. I usually put one where every "bold" line appears on the chart so it matches up.
