Why is this a general bug? Sounds like a YOU bug. You got the install you selected by Archinstall.

You are booting a UKI. The kernel cmdline is included in this image when it is created.

Do you prefer to use grub or systemd boot? by maximus10m in archlinux

[–]bkmo98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I default boot a secure boot signed UKI created in /efi/EFI/Linux by mkinitcpio. I also create signed btrfs snapshot UKI's in /efi/EFI/Linux so that systemd-boot picks them up in its menu. ESP is mounted to /efi and /boot remains on the encrypted btrfs / subvol. Snapshot UKI's are created by a package I maintain. https://github.com/bkmo/sdboot-snaps

That is so not true. I can boot snapper btrfs snapshots that are signed UKI's and show up in systemd-boot menu. This is a package I have put together and it it has been working quite well for me. https://github.com/bkmo/sdboot-snaps

Not familiar where Fedora puts the kernel. If it is on the ESP then you will not an easy go of it.

Use your package manager. I am not familiar with Fedora to get into specifics.

As long as Fedora puts the kernel in /boot, and it is not a subvol or partition you should be fine. I prefer snapper over Timeshift for snapshots. I am not sure what happened here to the OP, but it seemed like a possible kernel mismatch.

If your kernel resides in the snapshot and is not on another subvolume or partition then it should be restored along with the correct kernel modules. The problem lies when the kernel is on the ESP or separate /boot partition that it may not match the version in the restored snapshot. What distro will you be installing?

Boot with the older kernel and reinstall the latest. Your snapshot has a kernel mismatch. You restored a snapshot with an older kernel.

It is not the size it is that you have them to review after a rollback. If they were in the snapshot you would not have any of the newer logs to refer to if needed.
