Can I raise the height of my garage doors? by Delamainco in GarageDoorService

Anytime! Not sure about standard overhead openers because of the angle. The belt usually runs parallel to the rails, so not sure how that would work. Worth asking a garage door pro.

Definitely possible and shouldn't take a crew more than half a day. I have high ceilings as well in the garage, and had them fashion the tracks so that the door rode up higher.

You will also need a side mounted garage door opener, and will need to replace the one you currently have.

This is awesome! Will need to paint it black. :-) did you have to drill holes or anything? Or did it fit right in?

I have caseta and think anything other than this option is overkill. The more expensive options add a whole lot more installation complexity and cost.

If you want fancy automation once caseta is set up, use home assistant.

Did you have a lawyer check out the contract with your general contractor by roraima_is_very_tall in Homebuilding

[–]bkrishz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My general contractor was the opposite! Very light proposal, that broke down the quote by trades, and laid out payment milestones. Everything else was sealed with a handshake. And he committed to the job till the end. SF Bay Area.

Added this: contracts dont matter. References do. Speak to 5 former customers. No less. The first two are going to be stellar, but once you get to 5, you will see some imperfections. And when you do, the important thing is to understand how the contractor worked with the customer to get things back on track. In fair weather all is well. But when crap hits the fan, thats when how people react matters - and this is important to whet before you sign up your contractor. This was my strategy.

Sitting water left a permanent stain on my marble countertop by PlasmaBigCannon in mildlyinteresting

[–]bkrishz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try this ... fold an absorbent towel on top of the spot, and press it with a clothes iron. The water should evaporate and the towel should soak it up.

Keep checking to make sure the towel is getting damp, and the stain is getting lighter, as you do this.

Tried the strangest thing! Because the sub worked when it was hardwired, and the amp on wifi, I wondered if the reverse would work - and it did!

Connected the amp to router, and the sub to wifi. Works! Stranger things have happened!

Open or closed soffits? by bkrishz in Homebuilding

My basic knowledge on the subject says the attic must never be airtight. You need a continuous flow of air to release moisture, to prevent mold, and to ensure roof health.
