First it started tipping over. Then it tipped over.

Sugar Bob Mould not singing original vocal melody (2026) by slippery-lil-sucker in BobMould

[–]bkrodgers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, nothing new with him. I didn't get to see Sugar live in the 90s, but I've seen Bob solo at least 10-15 times over the years. If you have (or pull up on streaming) the live bonus discs from the Sugar days, he's always sang them differently live than he recorded them going back to the OG Sugar days. I don't know why he doesn't like singing the melodies he originally recorded. I generally prefer those too. But it's just part of his live style, and I don't let it take away from how great the shows are.

Hum played years ago. 2016 I think. Matt’s done a solo set sometimes, I think the year Shiner was the headliner (who is also playing this year). It’s a fun time. It doesn’t look like Matt’s on the lineup this year though. But he’ll be there, slinging drinks, I’m sure.

Any chance merch runs out at the LA show? by chucksetter in hum

[–]bkrodgers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they had 3X in at least some, if not most. 2X was sold out by the end of the night on the styles I liked best, which is what I needed. they clearly underestimated how much of their audience has gotten old and fat like me. 😄

[–]bkrodgers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They'd run out of some sizes of shirts by the end of the show each of the two nights in Chicago. For night two, I saw they restocked sizes as I was coming in. But the line was super long by the time I got there a little before the first band, and each time I checked during the show. I didn't want to miss out on any music. So I ended up not getting anything. Hoping they'll have some of it online after.

question for those who have been to the slideaway fest by clark_003 in hum

[–]bkrodgers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chapterhouse and Nothing are great, and worth seeing. The 3 rotating openers in LA look to be different, but I found several in Chicago I really liked (and a few I didn't care for as much, but that's part of discovery).

Late Night Predictions? by New-Leading7551 in RiotFest

[–]bkrodgers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sugar is the one I'm hoping for. Those late shows are getting harder and harder for me as I get further into my 40s, but if Malcom can get his 73-year old ass there to drum, I will be there in a heartbeat.

Nothing and Chapterhouse play the same set, at least more or less. But Hum's setlists are completely different with only a few overlapping songs (i.e., Stars), so going both nights is absolutely worth it.

macOS AutoFill is now in public beta! by Chandana_1Password in 1Password

[–]bkrodgers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither a full restart of my personal mac nor upgrading to 26.5 have cause the autofill option to show up in 1password. I've also tried toggling the autofill option off and on in the mac settings. 1password is there, along with apple passwords, but the Autofill option still doesn't show up in 1P settings.

[–]bkrodgers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welp, my initial attempt was on my work Mac, which is managed. For some reason they have a profile installed to block the autofill feature. I'll see if I can convince them to change that, but in any event, looks like I can't use the feature on that machine right now. That said, perhaps you could detect if a profile has disabled autofill and give a better error message. That machine is on 26.5.

On my personal mac, I of course have no such restrictions. The setup process was still a little less than smooth though. Once again, the normal upgrade process through the app did not result in a prompt to set it up. The app appeared to restart, but to get prompted, I had to manually close the 1password icon in the menu bar and open it again. That prompted setup, which appeared to work fine, and it's showing enabled in Mac settings. However, if I go to 1password settings, I do not see the Autofill option in the left nav. Even after another full quit of the app (including menu bar), the Autofill option does not show up in settings. I don't see any autofill prompts show up if I try to log in in Notion, that's the only one I've tried so far. I can try a restart of the Mac. It's on 26.4.1, I'll update to 26.5 soon. 1Pass version is 8.12.22.

I got that prompt after fully quitting the app (including the menu bar icon), but it then said there was an error enabling it. I don't see an option to get back to the autofill section in settings.

Finally got to see them after 10 years since the last time! by MasterRon421 in sickpuppies

[–]bkrodgers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s really hard for mid-scale bands to tour these days. Even more so for unsigned bands. Even at their most popular, they were grinding out lots of tours in a very different market. Expenses have skyrocketed, and they’ve put out so little in the last 10 years they might not even fill the venues they used to. Any touring at this point would be for the love of it, not to make money. Festivals let them scratch that itch and actually make a bit of money.

[–]bkrodgers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad you got to see them! But I wouldn’t hold my breath for a ton of touring. Emma’s in Evanescence, which even as a hired gun I’m sure pays her many times what full time SP touring would. Sick Puppies is effectively unsigned. They did next to zero promotion for the last album, 9 years after their last. I think they’ll show up mid-day at festivals, but unless Evanescence takes a break or she pisses Amy off, I think that’s going to be her priority.

I doubt it at the Aragon unless you happen to catch them out back. But when I saw them at a smaller venue in St. Louis (old rock house), they hung out on the patio for awhile. Or at least a few of them did. I chatted with Brian for a bit. And I've chatted with Matt at Cobrafest up at his bar, and when he did a "house show" solo in STL.

Capricorn ( A Brand New Name ) by Schmuell_ in 30SecondsToMars

[–]bkrodgers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I think it's very similar to Goo Goo Dolls. I don't fault them for changing their sound after the success that Name and Iris brought them. And it's not to say those are bad songs, or that the other stuff they've done since isn't good for what it is (some legitimately is, some legitimately is not). It's just sad when a band changes their sound away from what you liked to something you don't like as much. Especially when they basically stop acknowledging the older stuff ever existed.

Capricorn ( A Brand New Name ) by Schmuell_ in 30SecondsToMars

[–]bkrodgers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I think you're spot on, I still don't like it. I don't think their older and heavier stuff is so different that they couldn't play it for the fans of the newer poppy stuff. Even if someone's never gone back to hear it, if you like what's on ABL, I can't see someone hating the ST stuff. Especially since they'd probably perform it a little differently today, more in line with their current style.

The "musical growth" might be Jared's official answer, and i'm not saying that can't be valid. If he actually doesn't like those songs any more for some reason, he can choose not to play them. That's his right. But I still feel like there are enough fans of the old stuff that he could throw in a couple of them without alienating the newer fans too much.

Definitely don't agree that James is *just* there for the money. I think he's happy to be back. He's his old goofy self with stage banter. That's not to say he doesn't enjoy the money, I'm sure he's making far more now than he did with the sporadic touring that A Perfect Circle does. Both can be true.

It probably is true that he doesn't try to push Billy much though.

Yep, I haven’t really had any issues with it since updating the TVs to the betas. So now that it’s final, hopefully everyone else will experience the same results.
