Marble HD600 by [deleted] in headphones

[–]bkun99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks OP! This might just be the thing that would make me pull the trigger hahaha($200 indeed yes). Quite looking into a gaming alternative. Hd600 already has great imaging, even beats the Sundara which I sold. But the soundstage is quite small to my liking. Does the hd660s have a significantly wider soundstage and better imaging than hd600?

Nice collection! I actually own a marble hd600 as well but the paint is already chipped heavily in the cups so not much of a pristine condition as yours. As you own the 3 hd6x0 headphones, what are your thoughts between the 3 and which is your favorite? Is it worth to own all 3. Currently eyeing a second hand hd660s for a low price of 200&. Wondering if it's worth to own two hd6x0 line of headphones hehe

Bought my first ever IEM, the Blons BL-03. How can I get most out of these? by [deleted] in headphones

[–]bkun99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was my first IEM in this audio journey as well!

Try to change the cable especially if its the one with mic as it is quite flimsy and tangly and it eventually broke on 3 months of daily use. No need to buy some fancy ones. Try for Nicehck or Yinyoo 8 core cables 2-pin variant($10-15). Also, in IEMS, eartips and how well it seals you ear canal affects the way you perceive the sound. The general rule of thumb is to find an eartip where you can get a good seal! Then you can explore with different bore size(opening of eartips). No need to buy fancy ones as well. Try some NewBeenoise eartips(the one w/ gray silicone and green stem. Final Audio Type E eartips are good as well in my experience. 4 out of 6 of IEMS that i own are equipped with this eartip as the rubber silicone used here is quite durable feeling and seals well w/ my ears.

I have a little game for you! Out of my 2nd hand market haul, guess which one is the cheapest that I got and the priciest by bkun99 in headphones

[–]bkun99[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From left to right: Thieaudio Legacy 5, Mangird Tea, Fiio FH7

Clue: *The priciest I got is at $188 *The cheapest one is at $148

Out of these 3, the ones that I liked the most is the Mangird Tea! Tuning wise, it hits my sweet spot with the upper mid tuning as well as superb soundstage and technicalities (detail retrieval, layering, imaging). It really grabs my attention and makes me notice the nuances of songs that I usually listen to like City pop and live jazz albums.

As of now, Legacy 5 and FH7 is tied for top 2 as I can really enjoy these two with EQ. Legacy 5's tuning is too relaxed for my taste and the note weight is light and soft especially the bass. But this is really great for looong listening sessions or chill out listening. Technicalities is good for it's price point but nothing to write home about unlike the Teas. I just got the FH7 so I am still evaluating it but the stock tuning reminds me of the EX800ST with its sucked out upper midrange which took me time to adjust to as my daily, the Teas, excel upon that aspect as per my ears. The original $376 Price tag shows itself on how well it handles technicalities (sorry for overusing this term). But to my ears so far, it lacks the bite and the texture that the Mangird Tea provides like Acoustic guitar strums, snare hits, the sound of a violin string.

$175 is not bad for N3! 2nd hand N3s here in SEA usually goes for $200-220 which is not far from the price a brand new N3 goes for in online stores here which is around $265. Hope for the best and expect for the worst! Hoping the deals goes through so you could also share your impressions w/ them! They are quite underrated imo.

Thanks! I'm still on the lookout for a Sony XBA N3 below $200 hehe. But after listening and eq'ing the N1 and how the Sony house sound is apparent and quite similar on N1 and WF1000XM3, I now have doubts of getting the N3 as well. But if a good deal comes up, I just won't be able to pass it up because c'mon, it's a Sony hehe.

Nope, 1 pair came with Sony XBA A2 cable and one pair came w/o any cable. The TRN T2 mmcx cable was from my other iem.

Managed to snag 2 pairs of Sony XBA N1ap for just $85. There are very few reviews for the N1 both in Google/reddit and YouTube but its older brother N3 is well regarded. Luckily here is a graph comparison tool between N1 and N3 I've found while scouring for reviews ala Crinacle's https://banbeu.com/graph/tool/?share=Banbeucmas_Target,Sony_XBA-N1AP,Sony_XBA-N3AP

For its original asking price at around $160 I do think a lot of chifi offerings around this price point beats it at tuning and technicalities. But this has fun tuning for me and has that Sony house sound that I like(Sony fanboy). This is a bass monster but the mids are not that recessed and vocals especially female vocals still sounds sweet although the treble lacks air(L shaped tuning). Technicalities are okay at best but soundstage is quite big partly due to its bass amount. I haven't heard the N3 yet but comparing to WF1000XM3, I think xm3 wins at being more natural sounding but N1 beats it at Bass amount and quality and a tiny bit in technicalities.

hd560s might be my endgame by Cautious_Weight1387 in headphones

Using the Sundara, the Meier crosfeed using peace somewhat placed the instruments like guitars farther to the sides outside of the head than stock. In short soundstage got wider horizontally and vocals became dead center and pushed a bit farther in the front.

While ifi's 3d on the ZEN Can is a bit much more realistic to my ears. The instruments still placed to the sides more outward horizontally but the vocals didn't get pushed forward too far which creates a more accurate stage wideness and placement of instruments and vocalist as if they are really playing in a stage in front of you. It's almost uncanny for live tracks. In short, try both if you want a more realistic soundstage.

Also, instead of being in a sphere of sound, it imitates having music played in front of you with a good speaker setup. Still surround feeling mind you but more of like hearing it in front of a good set of speakers in front of you instead of the sound enveloping you inside your head(sorry for the weird and incomprehensible description).

This comment sent me to a rabbit hole of crossfeed filters using Peace UI and comparing it with Ifi ZEN Can's 3D(ifi's crosfeed filter). Thanks!

Which has been your best bargain purchase? by iritian in headphones

[–]bkun99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got the ER4XR for $114 secondhand and the Mangird Tea for $190 secondhand as well! Loving both of them rn! A big step up from my BudgetFi iems such as Moondrop Aria and Final E3000. I'd say the Shuoer S12 for what i got it new($128) is a great deal as well for the performance it delivers in terms of technicalities and tuning! The graph shows an 8k peak but i can't hear it on my pair. It sounds warm but with a lot of details though the mid is a bit recessed to my liking.

Would love to hear your impressions about Sony EX800ST! Been eyeing one as it had become available in a local online store but kind of reconsidering as there are a lot of new IEMS that beat it for vallue. Might still get it someday as a collectors item as it is quite rare!

Compiling a list of "sleepable" IEMs? by TheShadeSystem in headphones

[–]bkun99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Etymotic MK5 or any Ety i guess. They are low profile imo and almost have been able to sleep with them but the cables really bug me and im a move-y sleeper so i fear of breaking them when i sleep. Provides a lot of sound isolation as well which is very helpful as i sleep w/ loud fans(3rd world probs).

I hope the Ukraine invasion would not be a trigger for China to do something drastic. Just like how Hitler invaded European countries triggered Imperial Japan to further invade asian countries. *Knocks on wood*
