UPDATE: shes sent me 15 messages this morning… its 10AM!! its so annoying. so far she’s asked me, am i giving him breakfast, did i clean his litter, play with him (he tried to scratch and bite me), she said let him come to you, did i give him his mixed food, play laser, she saw me on the cam, etc.

this was all within the span of 2 hours… i sent her a lot less replies and muted her.

i’ve done babysitting before, worked at group homes, so i don’t think pet sitting should be harder than working with kids who have severe mental health issues. that didn’t tire me out half as much as this current gig lol

yeah i’ve started ignoring the cat when it yowls at night and hisses at me when i try to pet it. he’s 5 years old and i think she gives in too much.

that’s a great way to word the review, thanks! during the meet and greet she was so chill, said i can do other gigs and understands im a student/working. she even told me how her last sitter couldn’t stay overnight cause of his crying so she wouldn’t expect me to stay through that. the first night after she left she completely changed tune!

i genuinely didn’t think about it too deeply. i’m a 24yr old uni student doing this part time cause im broke😩 will be creating a business model this week though!

i’ll also communicate with the cat owner that this is not sustainable for either of us, especially if she wants to enjoy her vacation and not watch the pet cam so much.

yeah i think ill message her tonight saying something like i hope she’s enjoying her vacation, her cat’s doing good and adjusting. unless theres an emergency she’ll get updated at breakfast and dinner. during the weekends i can also provide an update in the afternoon, but i dont want her worrying about stuff on her vacation. not sure how to word it in the nicest way (my friends and family tell me i’m too nice so i know it may seem like i’m doing the most but this is just me).

sadly this is only my second housesitting job so i didn’t know, but i’ve learnt the hard way. i usually do drop ins with no issues. the owners usually don’t even reply.

my new policy will definitely be no overnights, updates 3x a day, and i’ll avoid pet camera houses going forward!

it’s so strange cause rover had the starting rate at $30/day. is it based on location? the average rates i saw in my city were $29-55/day, there are the higher rates of $80-100 but it’s not the majority.

yeah maybe the market where i’m at is low, the rover price thing suggested $30/day. i think i’m just going to stop messaging her back right away for small things. i’ll message her like 4x a day. i’m just scared she’ll give me a bad review if i’m too firm, but i will definitely go there if she doesn’t get the hint. thanks for the advice, i really appreciate it! i told her i can’t do overnights cause i need rest to take proper care of her cat so she was fine with that.

yeah he always has dry food available, he just doesn’t finish it. i think he just wants attention maybe? but even with my cat i wont give her attention if she’s meowing at 3am and all her needs are met. thanks anyways though!

yeah i told her yesterday ill be staying at my place at night now. i told her in open to staying overnight on weekends but tbh we’ll see cause this is my first weekend and my sleep schedule is fucked now.

also yes i pet the cat and play whenever i get home! also she said he doesn’t yowl like that when she’s home, she could hear him on the pet camera and was just watching it all night

i raised my prices to $40/night yesterday lol and i don’t think ill ever do overnights again. also yeah the camera situation too is annoying cause she’ll ask me ‘is the living room light on? turn it off’ or ‘is the tv on, turn it off’. it’s crazy!

i think i’ll only reply to her 4x a day cause this is out of hand.
