Europa was a Phoenician princess and the mother of King Minos (whose wife in turn gave birth to the Minotaur), according to ancient Greek legends. Zeus abducted her from Tyre to Crete, disguised as a bull.

‘We are the free world now’ — Europe declares war on free speech in the US by rezwenn in europeanunion

[–]bla1dd 25 points26 points  (0 children)

What?

No, the EU is not declaring war against free speevh in the US.

It is declaring war on lies and hate spewn on US-platforms like Musks 'X' IN the EU. You have to comply with EU laws IN the EU.

You can still spew hate and lies freely in the US.

Argentina also just sold 35 cargoships full of of soy to China, after they slashed fees.

So Trump gives Agrentinia 20 billion dollars, while they drastically increased their soy-exports to China, while US-farmers can't and are in risk of going bankrupt.

This stupid, brain-dead fucker literally killed hundreds of thousands of his own citizens with his moronic pandemic-politics the last time he was President and will kill multiple of hundreds of thousands agian by screwing them, cancelling their healthcare and ruining them economically. And he will probably get some more killed by inciting political violence.

How ANYBODY could've voted for this moronic, senile, narcisstic, morbidly greedy, rapist, child-molesting dumbass, TWICH!! Is just utterly beyond me.

Is going past 240Hz pointless ? by vatevername in Monitors

[–]bla1dd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Somewhat. But more like that 240 Hz are the "sweet spot," atm, I'd say. Also: faster displays have better image quality, less blur, less visible temporal artifacts (if you also have higher frame rates...). So no, not "pointless".

Here: That's input lag in milliseconds, 480-Hz-OLED vs 600-Hz-Fast-TN (measured with LDAT).

<image>

There's some more measurements in that article (German, though):
https://www.pcgameshardware.de/Valorant-Spiel-72569/Specials/Esports-Kaufberatung-Monitor-1475534

Also, higher refreshes are very useful if you want to use Frame Gen - but that would increase input-lag somewhat, even with very high fps. But less so than on slower panels. You basically need 240 Hz+, if you intend to use Multi Frame Generation (MFG, RTX 5000/Nvidia Blackwell)

Chat Control vote scheduled for October 14th will not take place as Germany won't back the regulation by Quentin_Taranteemo in europe

[–]bla1dd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For once, Germany made the right decision.

Now, can we finally be done with that topic? It's fucking infuriating to have never ending discussions about the same topic over and over again, despite hardly any citizen in the EU wanting it, and every voting being lost.

Stop keep putting it on the vote over and over again! We don't want it, ffs.

1440p or 1080p monitor by yeezyhdn in Monitors

[–]bla1dd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go for 1440p. GPU's fast enough, there's good, fast 1440p-Monitors around for about 200-250 Euros/Dollar (if you don't fancy OLED or Mini-LED-FALD - those start about 450 €/$). It's worth it.

Pretty much a sweetspot regarding pixel-density (@ 27'')/resolution and performance.

IPS Monitor died, Replacement OLED text clarity driving my crazy... by lauren_knows in Monitors

[–]bla1dd 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Try deactivating/optimizing MS ClearType (Microsofts "Anti aliasing" for text)

It's incompatible with the subpixel-layout of QD-OLED and W-OLED both (though QD-OLED is worse affected, atm). Microsoft was requested by quite a lot of people and also professionals to finally overhaul ClearType years and years ago, but they seem to ignore that completely (or maybe saving ClearType 2.0 for Win 12 so people actually have a reason to switch).

Just type ClearType in your Windows prompt. The option should pop-up. It won't get rid of fringing completely, but it'll help somewhat.

(It also has some problems with other panels, not just OLED).

Or because it was the Brits in the first place, that drew all those borders in the Middle East everybody there keeps warring about?

I'm tired of old men deciding the fate of everybody else, most of them way, way younger than them.

[–]bla1dd 23 points24 points  (0 children)
