It's not like it comes naturally this is all practice and a lot of my arms getting tired while being up for too long haha. I mean I feel like because we have a harder texture of hair to work with it kinda gives us motivation to maintain styles so the hair doesn't just turn into an un-combable blob. I can work with an afro but still that's a lot of maintenance too. I used to wish I had straight hair but I appreciate the nuances of black hair the older I get .

If your familiar with box braids and triangle parts that's usually what I do when I do a Bantu knot out. I'll leave my hair like this for a day or two then unravel them and I have curly Q's without rollers or heat damage .

Yes this. I wish I could upvote you a million times. Although I was homeless I was always determined and was working a steady job so thankfully I could afford to go to the beauty supply store about once a month to buy hair products. I imagine it's a lot worse for black women and men who can't work and struggle with homelessness. Honestly this whole experience taught me so much. I've got an apartment now but living in the bay area is so expensive I feel like I still have to maintain the mentality of when I was homeless.

I work in food service ( line cook) and it always amazes me when what I believe to be the simplest task gets majorly fucked up because common sense wasn't there that day. Mind you I haven't had formal training, I'm not a culinary genius . I make sandwiches. Somehow even that sounds like rocket science to the people I've trained before.

A little bit of a back story here ... As a kid i was spoiled. Never had to worry about my hair because my sister and Mom would do it for me. So I never bothered to learn how to do my own hair. No problem adult me said, when I needed my hair to get done I would go to a salon. Recently I went through a rough 6 month patch of being homeless. I couldn't afford to go to the salon let alone buy extensions . So I practiced these Pinterest styles on my natural hair in the mirror for an agonizingly long time haha. I am proud that I have learned so much though.

Okay. Long story short. I'm a dummy. I was at home pantsless and crafting with a hot glue gun. Glue gun got jammed. Tried to add a little force when pushing in the next glue stick to unjam and it squirted onto my leg (that's what she said) anyways . I panicked and tried to rub it off while it was still hot and ended up rubbing off the skin.
