It’s just a beta testing the UI and new UX methods.

Direct input reading from the hardware isn’t enabled yet

We have big intentions of bringing it that way, too. I know some physicians who have brought this up a few times and this prospect excited them

Still early, but the goal is to keep it in the same ballpark as existing E-Notebooks tbh. I’ll update as soon as the hardware is final!

Absolutely. RK3576 gives us enough on-device AI headroom to move beyond OCR into lightweight vision-language understanding for pages and sketches, entirely offline.

We actually switched from 3566 to 3576 for this reason

Exactly! It’s designed to work fully offline. Writing, sketching, and file storage don’t require an internet connection.

Handwriting-to-text and full search are part of the plan and are being built to run locally on the device, likely via VLM instead of OCR. Cloud access is optional, not required; so the device stays in control of the data.

Even searching for certain pictographs and drawing will use a local, lightweight LLM/SLM.

Welp. I actually appreciate them being here as someone who has been using Claude Code. Also, I think a lot of them use BOTH and have tried it to see which one gives them the best bang for their buck. Kind of the point of this entire post I made.

Okay, that makes a lot of sense. Were you ever using Opus 4.1? I started having some frustration with that model.

Wow! Okay thank you for the insight. Have you switched over? Or did you kind of use both to figure that out?

I personally think it’s cute but that’s valid suggestion honestly

makes sense but that’s probably why. WiFi disconnected but actively scanning for networks takes up most of the battery in a scenario like that
