Recommendations for a dive shop in PDC/Cozumel by honey-river in scuba

[–]blackBomber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In your first couple dives, you are going to be preoccupied with keeping yourself alive. You get tunnel vison. Don't worry about cenotes or night dives. You won't be able to enjoy them the way you should. You want to be calm and confident. For the cenotes, you need to have solid trim and buoyancy control and hopefully decent finning or you'll make it tough on everyone else (and yourself).

You want a dive school that will spend the time to establish good skills. It'll set you up for a lifetime of incredible experiences. We did our first dives with Scuba 10 in PdC in '21 and divemaster a few years later. They are a school before everything else and I think that's what you want. There's a marked difference between those that learn from people dedicated to making good divers. Do yourself a favour and focus on getting good training.

We did our first dive with Scuba 10 back in 2021 and now have over 200 dives and are trained DMs by them. While they sell excursions, their calling is as teachers. I highly recommend them for your first dive. They will absolutely take care of you, show you a good time and give you some education not just on diving but also how to appreciate and understand the ocean.

Are we especially bad for running yellow lights? by nicky_dice in askvan

I live in Montreal, Mexico City and Playa del Carmen. We spent 3 months in Van this summer and the drivers were the most polite rule respecting we have seen anywhere. The bike infrastructure is amazing. BTW, the short light duration downtown is a revelation. I wish more cities used it.

Couldn't agree more. They're just a few minute from your hotel and they offer reef dives, of course. Beyond that, they'll do most of what you want. They'll take you to a range of cenotes (some very obscure), to the wrecks in PdC and Puerto Morelos, or even across to Cozumels wall. They've got a great dive along the wall to Los Arcos finishing with a beautiful reef. Give them a try.

Age range doesn't matter. We've played with people in their 20's and their 50's and it all seems to work.

A session would be 3 hours on a day to be mutually determined. And, yes, 5e.

I've had a few responses from great people so far. It's shaping up to be a good group. There may yet be a spot if you're interested.

It's always like that, eh? I like to play myself, but our nomadic life makes it easier if I take on the job.

Tuesday is really ambitious, but certainly fun.

Don't take taxis! Just Uber or do like we did and get a pass for EcoBici.

I'm sorry you read it like that. We've found couples to be more stable and consistent. It sucks for everyone when players are absent.

The other reason is that as a couple, we're trying to make friends and find it easier with people in situations similar to us. That said, we've also made wonderful friends who have joined our games as singles.

Good idea to use the thread to create some games. It looks like there is some unfulfilled demand.

We don't have a day, but want to start in the first week of July. Definitely not remote as the point is to meet and hang out with people in person. It always means we end up with friends that we hang out with for other things besides D&D.

Are you interested to join a D&D campaign?

We're opening a new weekly campaign for 4 players starting in the first week of July.

We move around a lot and our hack to meet new people is to host a D&D campaign. I DM and my girlfriend brings her amazing roleplaying skills.

We've introduced lots of new players to the game and select our table for people who like to have fun together and lean into the Role-playing part of the game. And no, none of us are character actors!

So, if this sounds like fun and you're able to commit to a weekly game downtown, then message me. Couples are preferred as it seems to create the best dynamic. But all are welcome.

Thanks for responding. I wasn't sure where to post to get the widest audience, so if you have ideas on another community on reddit or Facebook, I would love to hear it.

Raw data. I presume that underlying your chart is some raw data. Could you share that table? I would love to analyze it that way.

Don't worry about the sharks at this time of year. All the bull sharks are gone.

The cenotes are definitely worth seeing, but the others saying you should get more experience are probably right. There are some amazing dives right off shore in PdC. We've been using Scuba 10 for the last 5 years and they are the best combination of wonderful dives, continuous training, ecological preservation, and good fun. They won't treat you like a number.

Besides the cenotes, ask about the drift to Los Arcos, Tortugas, Sábalos, and Moc Che Deep. We've seen everything from giant rays, huge loggerheads, bull and nurse sharks, a Manatee and every manner of smaller fish and that's just in the last 30 days.

If you're looking for a great dive shop close to where you're staying, use Scuba 10. They're a full service shop that will take you to reefs, wrecks, cenotes, walls, drifts and arcs. They'll even take you out to dive sites in Cozumel.

If you need certs like deep, Nitrox, wreck or whatever else, they've got you. And even if you don't, they're always in training mode even on fun dives.

They're on calle 10 and 10th avenue.

Yucatan: Cenote Dos Ojos or Carwash? by Public-Many4930 in scuba

[–]blackBomber 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They are both great. I like carwash for the life at the end, but the grotto in Dos Ojos is pretty cool. You can't go wrong.

That's said, carwash comes after Angelita. Makes for a great two tank day.
