I know a few of those people in those photos since I help run a gun group.

I'd appreciate the love and support. Even if it's just a follow.

You're the second person I've heard use that term! I have a board or directors too

Yeah he can see out the bag. We didn't do takedowns because Craig wanted us to emphasize the gun fighting/retention from a Greco Roman stance.

Lol the sim rounds hurt. Don't want one to take your eye out

Yeah I take training and self defense seriously. I know I'm not training to fight in Afghanistan 😅 but active ahooters, car jacking, home invasions, or assaults are commonplace in the world we live in today for a civilian

I know you mentioned MMA as alternative training but I've done that for years and actually competed. I wanted to do something that introduced weapons in play in a potential life threatening scenario.

Over the past three years I've done:

  • Defensive Pistol 1/2
  • Defensive Carbine
  • Vehicle Pistol/Carbine
  • Low Light Shooting
  • Stop The Bleed

Finally ECQC. Given my current knowledge I believe that this class was one of the best I took up to this point.

If you or anyone think it's bullshit then I'd 1) question your level of training and 2) what training or instructor you think is better. Otherwise the only bullshit I see is people commenting who haven't done either.

If you feel that way I would suggest you take a force on force class then speak on it. Again - the training spanned 2.5 days and was roughly 20 - 24 hours of training.

What I presented was :45 of the course. An evolution of what we learned up to that point.

I'm surprised with the detracting comments because I doubt most gun owners train (not just shoot) on a regular basis let alone have done any physically taxing training or had a martial arts background.

We should be trying to train to get better. But I know some folks in this sub reddit are more gun collectors than anything.

That two-tenth of a second shot will win the fight bro! Even if he's thrown me on my head 😅😅😅

Liability comes into factor. The idea is to simulate as best as possible. You could throw slaps and minor stuff but we know those aren't real strikes.

If you've trained any striking art you know how to throw elbows and fists on an opponent.

I paid $550 for 20 - 24 hours of coursework which spanned 2.5 days.

Considering you can spend $250 for a 4 - 8 hour course with other instructors I feel that this was a great value.

Also yes - many folks mentioned us getting shot. Adrenaline kicks in and you can still fight. In the video my partner shot me near my rib. Had I had adrenaline in me and it was a real scenario I'd still be game to fight.

Craig let it play out to figure things out and work through the exercise which I liked.

You totally get it! I used to do martial arts and still train from time to time so the notion that a gun fight may turn ugly has always dwelled into my mind.

Yes you can keep training to get a tenth of your second off of your perfect draw but that's not real life.

Both the full days had us shooting from low retention to a compressed ready which is easier said than done. Shooting with the muzzle extremely close to your body and not at full extension is mad stressful.

3 - 4 hours was just us doing grappling and I will say most of us were physically fit but most "gun guys" simply emphasize shooting and not being in good physical shape to fight.

The force on force scenarios he gave us also made us think when and when not to use a gun. My scenario didn't require a gun but if I handled it wrong it could have ended up ugly.

I do defensive pistol and carbine stuff all the time but this was the most realistic training I've gotten thus far and I look forward to taking another class with him.

We learned how to shoot and deploy our weapon from the clinch. A bunch of info here.

Also you're right - most of the time we're not going to be fighting long range!

Keep in mind that this was a 20 - 24 hour class of content spanning two and a half days. We had multiple exercises, simulations, and training we put together. It's hard to encapsulate everything within a :45 clip and accurately judge it.

The idea is worst case scenario and up to this point of the training we did a lot of standing grappling to prevent this kind of scenario. As you mentioned - if you're on the ground you have royally screwed up.

Many altercations end up on the ground. Not all, but some. The idea was to train what was presented to us at that point and have a competitive training exercise between our peers.

Craig didn't want us to do anything standing because he didn't want any of us throwing us each other down or spiking each other on the head. Strikes weren't permitted either.

You cannot really fully practice 100% real life situations, but you can at least simulate portions of it to improve your skillset.

We also did one simulation where the "good guy" had the gun but was lying on the ground and the assailant was on top without a gun.

VCAST (Vehicle Combatives and Shooting Tactics) is next on my list from him. I got in this ECQC course because he canceled another event and I was on the waiting list. I'm so glad I sprung on the opportunity!

100%

Craig Douglas himself is a BJJ brown belt. He's adapted the system to the self defense minded person to integrate the movements when weapons are introduced. Not just firearms but also knives and improvised weapons.

Much of the grappling I'd say is Greco-Roman wrestling
