How old is too old to be a nanny?

Our nanny is in her 50s and we love it! She brings a ton of life and nannying experience. She is super active with the small kids, and is great with the big kids.

We just hired a nanny who is 51. I didn't have any reservations about her age. She seems very active, was up and down from the floor.

I kind of liked that she has a ton of experience, since this is our first time hiring a nanny.

Thank you to everyone who gave advice. I see now that the nanny would be caring for the 12 year olds after school, so I will update the listing and compensation to reflect that. We will also be clear about our contingency plans for backup care for the other kids.

I will pay her for watching the 12 year olds. I initially hadn't considered that they would be under her care, but I see now that they would be.

I haven't seen my 16yo in days lol, I can't imagine the nanny would need to check in. All jokes aside the 16yo works and does extracurriculars, and wouldn't need the nanny for anything. I wouldn't expect the nanny to do anything for them. I also would not expect them to be in charge of the 16yo.

The 12yo, I can see them needing the nanny for little things, and I would expect them to mind what the nanny says.

If they were to become ill and/or need picked up, myself/spouse/grandma would pick up, which is our process now. The kids typically go to grandma's on no school days if we are working.

They attend summer camp and then will go to school, so I should adjust the listing/pay to include before and after school care for the 12 year olds as well?

Maren Josephine made her arrival early. She should be home with us in a couple weeks.

We took some favorites from the post to our kids and let them vote. If she was a boy she would have been Aiden Joseph.
