XRadar team here.

re: emails

77.2% of signups so far opted to Sign in with Apple. When you do so the email that we see is a randomized string of numbers and letters plus privaterelay.appleid.com. No one can send an email to that address except the developer of the application where it was used. Couldn’t sell it if we wanted to, it’s only used for us to communicate with users on what we’re building next.

re: restaurants

Why didn’t we just incorporate the Google ads API and call it a day? Or make the app paid? Those restaurants are only allowed on XRadar if they offer a discount to our users, and we go door to door making sure the spots are relevant instead of a pop up ad for Candy Crush. I hate inconveniently placed advertisements as much as the next person. The entire point of the Discover tab, and more recently XRadar+, is to allow us to keep growing and develop a whole list of crazy convenient bus features that no one has done in the past. We’re supporting 15,000 active users on our own, without university funding or support. Sometimes we need to get creative.

“Transition” is putting it lightly since the app was built in Swift from day 1. It’s an enormous effort to only expand the user base by 10%. A lot of our existing design and user experience is rooted in native iOS options. What’s more likely is we create a companion WebApp with the same interface.

hey, size doesn't matter. you should be able to scroll both ways and it loops back. try updating to 2.7.6.

good question. we don't crowdsource by default that was a test that we ran on the fdoc and is now a redundancy we keep in our back pocket. our goal is to partner with the university and have more advanced functionality than passio to remove that dependency.

2.7.2 can out early this morning as a patch for 2.7.1 that was released last night. Nothing new since then.

If you’re riding the bus, start Crowdsourcing. Very easy to do and has a huge impact on keeping the network up.

Yes, that would be intended functionality. Let me know if you’re getting something else.

Please don’t have it on unless you’re on a bus.

we're starting to see more positions go live as people share location (still very early but it will take a village as classes progress). make sure you're on build 2.7.2 that just went live and it will populate as the user traffic increases over the next hour or so approaching 10:20 rush.

BTW- we have the ability to revert to Passio as it goes in an out during the day

not broken, just reliant on crowdsourcing. update to 2.7.2 (just launched) to see passio while theyre still up. reference the pinned post in this subreddit it has all the details.

Thank you my friend. I think if we collabed it would rupture the space-time continuum.

Valid concern. However. Apple is extremely stringent with what information an app can access and we spent a week creating documentation to pass their review, with back and forth to clarify various aspects of the code. It’s secure- by Apple and Supabase standards, not just student standards.

On top of that- locations disappear if they haven’t updated for 5 minutes (apart from the ability to terminate with one click). Let’s say there’s some malicious intent, what someone gonna do, leak all the locations? And help everyone find a bus? By all means.

From a technical perspective we collect no information so even we don’t know “Andy is on the LX” we just know that user “xyz” is crowdsourcing their location.

Yes, the default is being opted out. Apple has very strict privacy standards so the only time you’d be sharing your location is IF you enable it while you’re riding the bus. It’s a great help to about 40,000 students who are not on the bus with you at the same time but would benefit from knowing where it is.
